mth sd70ace dcc programing

hi all i have one of mth`s rather nice sd70ace the only problem is that will not  retain its cv programming i have set cv 29 to a value of 38 to get it to use its running number as an address but as soon as i remove power from the track it reverts to 3. The first one i got works fine but the new one is a bit of a problem child.

Has any one else had this happen i am programming with a dynamis pro which changes the cv and have used a decoder pro with a sprog which failed completely to do anything any help would be appreciated

Location of resistor with LED's

Quick question.  When using a resistor with an LED, can the resistor go on the cathode side or the anode side?  I've got some 3 lead bi-color led's and it could save me some resistors if the resistor can go on the common cathode.

Thanks,

John

Moveable L-girder advice

Hi all,

I'm hoping to build a 10'6" x 3'9" (max) dog-bone N-scale "rail-fanning" layout - maximum mountain scenery and limited track with probably only five turnouts on the whole layout. A high scenic divide (probably hardboard), will run about 8' down the center of the layout giving me two viewing sides.

My space is limited. When not in use, the layout needs to be pushed against a wall but to enable me to access both sides I need to be able to pull it away out into the room.

Locos - PK2 SD50 problem - Little help, Please?

Guys & Gals -

I have a bit of a problem.  I picked up a new, in the box, Lifelike Proto 2000 D&RGW SD50 last week at a local (2 hours away) hobby shop.  We ran it on the test track and it did fine at slow speed.  We couldn't test it out good because his small layout was full of engines and cars for customers to check out.

Railfanning around Fort Myers, FL.

Hello everyone,

I'm going to be in the vicinity of Fort Myers in the second week of March. I noticed a few tracks and I was wondering if there was any good spot to take pictures of equipment or just pics of passing trains? I guess they don't see a lot of traffic, but if anyone had some specific info, it could always help me.

Thanks for the info,

Chris

Advice on scratch building crossing

I am looking for advice from people who scratch build their own track work especially those that have built crossings.

After trying to build my first crossing, I think that I assembled the track components in the wrong order. I originally started with the inner frogs and worked my way out.

I now think that I should have started with the outer points, then the outer rails, then the frogs and finally the guard rails.

Does that order make sense to anyone? Is there a better order?

Spike Length

Does anyone know the length of Walters #948-360 Code 70 spikes?  I am ultimately looking for 1/2 spikes, but I am finding that many manufacturers do not advertise lengths.

Waterfront Railroading wanted !!!!

The subject line says it all. I am looking for examples, ideas, tips, tricks, PHOTOS, etc of waterfront railroading. I will be modeling the Western Maryland in Baltimore, MD circa 1943.(But please don't limit your posts to that era or locale).  Anything you have or know of post on here. Trying to get some brainstorming ideas. Also looking at scratchbuilding or kitbashing some HO scale ships (naval or merchant), so ship building ideas are especially accepted.

Thanks in advance

I need your advice

I am attempting to do some weathering to some old box cars. Yes, I am struggling. I have read Kevin Klettke's PDF presentation over and over and it is wonderful. I have learned so much, thanks, Kevin.

I need your advice to help me get better. Please critic the attached picture and be brutal. I learn greatly from my mistakes and your advice.

Gary
