Gloor Craft #406 coaling tower - modification?

I recently acquired one of these fine old craftsman kits.  It appears to be designed to have the service track dump coal under the tower, and has two chutes on a track beside the tower.   I would like to put one chute under the tower, and have the coal dump and sand service track outside the elevator  -  something like these two rough diagrams:

ICRR Poydras Street Yard - Progress Report

Well, very little progress has been made since last writing. I have some health issues that are preventing me from sitting at the computer for any period of time, but they are improving and I plan to make a day of designing tomorrow to try and finish the track plan and get it up here sometime early next week for comments here.

Bulk Comodity industries : Spur length and position

Dear MRHers,

Was just looking thru some MRR blogs, and saw something which has me scratching my head.

There are many modellers who use single-ended spurs to handle "bulk commodity" loading/unloading. I'm thinking primarily of:
- woodchip rotary dumpers
- coal and ore loaders (not "flood loaders" with balloon-loop systems, eat too much space for most modellers)
- molten steel (torpedo or "tip-over pot" ladle cars?)
- Grain loading/dumping

Anyone know where to get Peco "replacement springs" in the US?

Arrghh! While doing some trackwork yesterday, I noticed one of my HO code 75 Peco turnouts was malfunctioning. When I tried to fix it I dislodged the center spring even worse. I managed to pry up the tabs and remove the spring cover and even to keep the spring from flying away. That is until tonight when I attempted to repair the turnout.

New Layout Design - Brooklyn Terminal RR - Looking for feedback

Hi All,

Attached is a draft plan for my new shelf layout which is a freelanced road based on the Brooklyn terminal railroads and a car float operation in the 1980's.

I would appreciate any feedback and suggestions based on this initial draft plan.

Google Maps, Google Street View, Bing Maps Birds Eye.

I’m working on a concept for my next layout and would like to present my ideas here for feedback and evaluation.  I would like present a number of images from Google Maps, Google Street View, Bing Maps Birds Eye. Is this acceptable or are these images technically copywrited? I’m not looking to violate any forum guidelines or internet educate.

Substitute for Micro Engineering Rail Joiners

Our local "N" scale club is committed to Micro Engineering flex track and turnouts. Mainline track is code 70, the balance code 55. All joiners will be soldered.

ME code 55 joiners have become very difficult to source. What other manufacturers rail joiners have users successfully used for Micro Engineering Code 55 and Code 70 rail?

What were the advantages and/or disadvantages over ME joiners?

Thanks

Easy Model Railroad Inventory Program

I have been playing around with Easy Model Railroad Inventory program by Bob Langer recently.

It also has operations included in the program. I have been using the inventory part of the program to catalog all my rail cars. It seems to work quite well. I have started to update the operations part of the program, but I am not too far into it.

Any one with any experience using this program for operations?

Paul
