F7A #917 and me on the rails
Just got home from the Western Pacific Railroad Museum and a wonderful hour of running a F7A locomotive. After a quick discussion of the controls in the cockpit, when and how to use the bell and whistle, I was released to take the locomotive out on the rails. I was rather surprised by how well the brakes worked and how smooth was the process of stopping. One question I forgot to ask was why the controls were on the right side of the locomotive. Perhaps someone here will have an answer for me.
Here are a couple of pictures for you to see.

New post - more track paint / ballast ideas, and canyon scenery design
Here's another blog post... continuing my ideas on painting track and ballasting (resolved now, I hope!), and working thru the visual design for some trackwork twisting through a deep canyon.

Easy Model Railroad Inventory
Hi all,
I have been trying to find the site for Easy Model Railroad Inventory and it seems it is no longer available. No matter what I try, I can't reach the site: easy-model-railroad-inventory.rclsoftware.com/index.htm that everywhere I read tells me this is the site for the software. Any help would be appreciated

Modelling Copper Cliff, plus an update on the ore car fleet
Thanks to all of you who have been checking out my blog on a regular basis. I'm picking up a great deal of traffic from MRH.
I've started posting about planning and building the scene at Copper Cliff on the WRMRC. I've been working on the scene for a while, but I've only just started writing about that one.

N Scale Staging Question
Sorry for yet another question! How are you/would you handle staging on a N Scale layout? I am currently looking at an 12" - 18" deep shelf with staging 7" below connected via helixes. Am I better off going to 24" deep and putting staging behind a removable backdrop? I am not sure of the height, but I am thinking of around 37" (sit and run height), so standing up would allow easy access to the staging area. One drawback that I can think of is that there will be less overall staging on just one deck.

Any interest in handlaid turnout build?
One of the many many projects on my to-do list is handlaying some track for a Free-mo module, and that involves building some turnouts. In contrast with many folks here, I do not use copper ties, jigs, kits, plans, etc., as I learned to lay track more or less in isolation, and had to make do. I was just wondering if anybody would be interested in seeing the progress whenever I get around to the job. I cannot claim to be an expert or even to lay especially good turnouts, but they seem to work well enough for my needs.

Rail trains?
Just thinking out loud tonight, as I sit in the hotel waiting for my train back home. I haven't seen many models of rail trains, and I'm curious why. There are two distinct types which we handle on NS with some regularity.

Wonderful Surprise!
While having a great breakfast out this morning, my sweetie informed me that we were going to play trains tomorrow. Since my layout is far from allowing it's first locomotive to operate, I was a bit puzzled. Turns out we will be heading to Portola, CA to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum and I will be piloting an F7 locomotive for an hour. I am excited... I will have pictures to share.
