Praise for WiThrottle

Last weekend we had the monthly Operating session on Steve Davis' KCS 3rd Sub in Coweta OK. The layout is controlled by a Digitrax DCC system and Steve has just added the capability of using an APP on you phone for control.

Mounting Kadee On3 #802's on a AHM/IHC centercab switcher

Well, week 4 of my Thing-a-week challenge draws to a close (yes, I know the weekend starts tomorrow, but I usually work weekends and have little time for modeling). What have I accomplished? I disassembled, cleaned, lubed, and repaired the drive mechanism of the little 4-wheel AHM/IHC switcher I am bashing into an On30 electric locomotive.

Two Switches

A new layout with only 2 switches....

The time has come in my modeling journey to try something new.  I have decided to follow the minimalist approach of less track and more operation.  Thanks to Lance Mindheim and others online, I have decided to build a layout with only two switches.

WHO'S JOHN GALT

Thanks to Bernd, I found out who John Galt was a few months ago. I still haven't read the book. I find Bernd's input both informative and thought provoking. He is right, computers are only a tool and not an end solution. I was told by a manager that we were gonna track power cable with a computer. I pointed out that if it could not be done with a pencil and a big chief tablet, then it could not be done with a computer.

Planning, how far do you go?

I apologize to Geoff A for derailing his Using Scrap Plywood Roadbed thread. Before the error gets compounded I thought I would start a separate thread.

Dave B and I bantered around layout planning what and what does not matter. Frequent readers know I lean very heavily towards plan to the nth degree before building. There are others that barely get a track plan roughed out and off they go cutting wood.

Who makes this track?

Hey all,

I have some flex track, in HO scale code 100 N/S, that is 36" long and has black ties. It looks like atlas track, but the only marking on the bottom is, GT Italy.

I've only used atlas track in the past, witch is pretty easy to use, and this other track is a lot more stiff than the atlas. Harder to make in a curve.

Can anybody tell me anything about this track, who makes it, is it old track, is it worth my time?

Digitrax UT4 direction contol switch

Anyone have info on manufacturer, part number and source of this switch? I have a broken switch that has MTS-1 stamped on one side, with a 3 amp-250V/6amp-125V rating stamped on the other side. Digitrax wants $25, and over a month to repair it. I'm looking thru the Allied and Digi-key on line catalogues, but that is pretty daunting. Thanxz.
