DCC Decoder or not

I picked up a Genesis USRA 282 light mikado and it had what I assume is a decoder in the box.  The number on it is HND SL1 02/02.  With the decoder installed the unit runs on dc, but I can't get it to do anything on DCC.  First off, can anyone tell me if, in fact, I have a decoder and who is the manufacturer?   I have tried to change the speed steps and change the address and nothing works.  I am new to DCC.

RailPro comes to the BNML - First Thoughts

This weekend I setup my RailPro controller and 1 locomotive. Overall, I am very impressed with the Railpro system.

Installation was straight forward. Usage and configuration is super easy.

I have a few issues to figure out yet; mostly sound related things that don't make sense, but overall, setting this thing up has been a fine experience.

Resistors

Hi,

If you have a 12.5 volt source......and you put in a 1K ohm resistor.......shouldn`t the voltage drop below 12.5 volts?

Strange Car

I saw a strange piece of rolling stock this afternoon, and I am curious what it is and what it is used for. I have enclosed a picture of it.

Roundhouse Question?

Everyone should be familiar with the walthers roundhouse. It has a short pitched roof on the front ( turntable side ) and then it steps up to a longer pitched roof in the back. The step is skylights. The smokejacks are on the longer pitched roof towards the back. Therefore I assume the normal operation was to pull the steamers in. Is this the norm? I saw a prototype photo in which the roof structure was similar but reversed and it looked wierd. Anybody modeling a back- in roundhouse? How about some prototype examples?

Thanks MARK

Oops! - Another interesting scene to model

Messed up your Crossing Signal Towers? No worries, you can still use them!

By the looks of the tracks in the ditch on Friday, some poor truck driver ran down this signal bridge. The truck is long gone, but the tracks indicate a large excavator was used in the recovery.

Not unlike the like the BNSF Signal Upgrade, we'll call this "a scene you can model".

Dipping a toe...

So I am officially dipping my toe into the dark pool of soul sucking model railroading that is On30 (which seems to be a trend, based on other posts), as I bid on and won a two truck shay on eBay.

General questions about the loco, as I await it's delivery.

CNR liveries

I read that the CNR green and yellow paint sceme existed into the time of the CN noodle paint schemes, but I can't find any dates when the green and yellow scheme were last seen. I'm particularly interested to know if any RS3's lasted into 1968 in the yellow and green paint scheme. Any info or guidance in finding out would be much appreciated.

Restaging the K&EFR & The mon night mail

Last month I spoke about the car card and waybills used on the Kanunda and Emu Flat Railway. This month I hope to explain how I re-stage the layout between operating sessions.
