On30 0-4-0 Porter mod (2005)

A Bachmann On30 Porter modified with side tanks and side entry doors. This was based on a NG&SL Gazette article by Nobuo Koizumi. Apologies for the atrocious weathering attempt. Tanks were made from Evergreen styrene. Cylindrical steam dome is styrene tubing. Coal bunker at rear is a bit of the small side.

Transfer Terminal Kitbash: Adventures In CNC

Sometimes a person has to go a very long distance out of his way to come back a short distance correctly. - Edward Albee, "Zoo Story"

Yes, it's been quiet around here. Summer included a lot of travel -- since the beginning of August we've been away more than we've been home -- and not a whole lot got done in the basement.

Highlights from my trip to the US

I was just looking through some pictures from my 2012-trip to the US. There are some nice ones in there, so I thought I'd share some with you guys. This first one has to be my favourite; yours truly running the "Pennsy Transfer" at Paul Dolkos' Baltimore Harbour layout.

Locos you want to see produced? [EDITED] (more steam inclusive)

What 1:1 locomotives do you want to see produced (RTR/kit) ?

[EDIT] manufacturer names removed

STEAM LOCOMOTIVES ARE WELCOME!

Several "big names" in the model model railroading industry are MRH sponsors, so it might provide them some persuasion cheeky

Things to include would be:

What happened?!?!?

Anybody want to add to this thread with some unusual pics?  Found this one on the Internet.

That some tight radius curves!!!

Your advise please on embedding tracks for Palmer Bldg on the Richlawn RR

I am at the point that I need to think about embedding the tracks inside of the Palmer building and need your advice as I've never done this before.  I want just the rail heads to be visible and look like they are set in the concrete floor.  I've heard of people coating the tracks with plaster or Sculptamold and then rolling a junk car through it while still wet to provide wheel flange clearance.  I've also heard that instead of rolling a car through the wet material that spacers (styrene?) are first put in and then removed just before the material hardens.

N Scale Pagosa & Southern Progress

Once I decided to expand my On30 Thunder Mesa layout, I was faced with the problem of what to do with the 30" x 60" N scale Pagosa & Southern that stood in the path of 1:48 scale progress. Moving it lock, stock and barrel to another location wasn't an option, so I concluded to redesign and rebuild the layout as a 12" x 72" switching operation on a shelf. This is one of the many times I've been glad that I used Kato Unitrack.

ATSF Hutchinson District

Like most people, I began an interest in trains at an early age. I received an AHM train set in Junior High, and played with it through high school, but I put it away when I went to college. Shortly after I got married, I picked a copy of the June 1981 MR, and read the article on 4 x 8 Track Planning. The Arkansas Southern was something I could build, so I did. Then I expanded it, then I converted my cars to KD couplers. Through graduate school and jobs I always had at least a 4x8 layout, with an emphasis on operating.

The State of the Layout Report

I've been working on the railroad, at odd hours of the day!

To see progress on my little small layout adventure, check it out on my blog here: http://joshuadewolfe.wordpress.com/2014/10/17/the-state-of-the-layout-report/

There are lots of pictures (18 total) so if you have a slow or limited connection-you've  been warned.

Atlas Gold Series RS-3 Opinions

For some reason, I really desire an RS-3 in CN green and yellow.

I have a Bachmann GP-9 that I really like (after I put in a TCS DP2X). When I got it was a toss between that one and the RS-3. I have been bitten by the sound bugs and really want to hear that Alco sound.

I have searched, but have not found much reviews on the Atlas RS-3 Gold series (LokSound) and was wondering if anyone had experience with one and what their thoughts / opinions were.
