What's in your paint box?
When I first began this hobby in the 60's I quickly discovered the superiority of Floquil paints and learned to paint with them. When I went off to college, I messed around with oil paints enough to learn basic principles of mixing and brushwork. (I also learned that music was a much better career path for me!) I even used oils on a few models that still look good today.

Bachmann Trains GE 70Ton
Been reading up on the GE 70Ton produced by Bachmann and see comments about dual motor and single motor. I saw a comment about Spectrum vs regular as well. I see from Bachmann's website that no Spectrum version is available. Has the problems with gears cracking and such been eliminated with the current version being sold? What other problem are there with the current version?
Thanks
Michael

Swift Creamery from DPM kit
On my Bagnell Branch there was one industry spur in Eldon that had a Cities Service dealer and a Swift Creamery on the Mopac. Many years ago I'd built the DPM Cutting Scissors Factory for a prior layout pretty much 'out of box' but when I needed a creamery for Eldon the building had the right size footprint so I added the wood dock and metal roof over it from Evergreen styrene. The small white extension was just added to breakup the building and add some interest.
Marx 3 rail
Yep, I'm working with the old Marx 3-rail tracks and trucks/wheels.
Does anyone still use this stuff?
I'm making a dedicated layout, about 4'x4', hilly/mountain winter scene.
I plan to strip these tracks off their ties, re-bend them to 8"radius curves, convert it to a 2-rail system, and build short little engine and cars to traverse the town.
Is any of this possible?
I presume the third rail was to supply lighting?
Is it possible to convert to 2 rail?
How do these systems work?
Modern Logging Layout?
There is no shortage of logging layouts out there. They usually are done by what I would consider very fine modelers. They are usually scenery intense, often narrow gauge and many times are compact layouts in general. But they are always in the steam era.
mag Lev models?
A guy at work asked if it was possible to model a working mag Lev train. I'm stumped for ideas. Anybody have any thoughts on this. It would be HO or larger scale.
Standard conformity of DCC decoders
I'm a little bit confused about the different factory installed DCC decoders.
Are they all following the DCC standard and programmable as usual without the need of some proprietary hardware?
Layout update 2/18/2015
I have been working on the Prr signal, wiring up accessories in Conway and more.
