Athearn RTR AC4400CW frame

HI,

I recently bought an Athearn RTR AC4400CW shell. I'm looking for a complete RTR frame, but I've had no luck. Any advice on where to look for one?

Thanks,

Platform construction started at Lochdubh

Today I started with the platform construction at Lochdubh. For these I used some downloads which were part of the Hornby Magazine  Operation Built It Series. Which ran in late 2013 and early 2014.

I also dismantled the Your Model Railway Village Mk1 coach.

027 Lionel Loco AC or DC?????

Hi everyone I have a question that I know somebody can answer.  I primarily use N scale stuff but when my dad passed away I found 2ea 027 steam loco's, one was made out of plastic and the other was pretty heavy cast metal.  I was thinking of setting up a small layout under the xmas tree this year, but after reading about the transformer/controller how do I know if my 027 trains run off of DC or AC.  I want to make sure I get the right controller seeing as I don't have one.  All I have is a few rolling stock and some track.

Help with a brass steam loco

I am interested in tuning up some older brass steam locos and getting them DCC'd. I've read the awesome clinic handouts from Mark Schutzer. But I have a few more specific questions and are a bit more unique that what Mr. Schutzer included. The loco that I have on my workbench right now is a Customer Brass 2-8-2 that has been remotored and DCC'd by the person who owned it before me. The locomotive works, but it has a bit of binding. I am thinking that when the driver axle was pressed on it may not have been quartered correctly. Is this a good place to start?

Progress on the Kingsbury Branch

Since the better half had to work Wednesday and I had the day off, I decided it would be a great idea to spend most of the day in the train room getting jobs done.

1) Finished installing all the hand throws and fine tuning the turnouts

2) Finished tacking down all the track that had been temporaily laid down to check for use

3) Got some more snipe signs and installed fascia around the layout

4) Installed another Digitrax Universal panel

5) Weighted some more cars until I ran out of pennies

Best/cost effective circuit breaker and auto reversers

All,

As I continue to shop and build my wiring plan, I was looking for feedback on who makes the best breakers and reversers. I have heard pros and cons for relays or solid state components. Using Digitrax Command Station, Tam Valley boosters and with about 15 or so sections for breakers, and 3 reverse loops. HO scale too.

Thanks in advance.

scratch building rolling stock

I am working on my MMR and ready to attempt to scratch build some rolling stock.  My question is, are there any web sites where I can view or download drawings (preferably free) of various types of rolling stock?  I could probably just look at a commercial model and work from that but I would rather work from an original drawing if possible.

LED Lighting for your Layout - one way to do it downloadable PDF file

Currently there are a couple of threads on MRH about LED room lighting.  I've posted previously on my MRH blog on my conversion to LED for my layout room and the thread became fairly lengthy.  Thank you to all that posted your comments to that thread!

I've recycled and condensed that thread into a downloadable PDF for those who what a quicker read and I've posted it on my Richlawn Railroad website.  You can follow the link below and right click on the file to download it.
