Wiring for HO and HOn30 test tracks

Hello Everyone.  First off let me admit to the fact that I'm not very bright/knowledgeable about electrical circuitry.  I have set up a test bed to test run and exercise my HO, HOn30 and On30 engines.  I have a 6' board with Bachman HO and N scale EZ track.  My question is how to wire up the tracks to be powered ONE AT A TIME from either of two dedicated controllers, one a DC and the other a basic Bachman DCC.  I was thinking of using two DPDT on-off-on switches.

Detail Associates Speed Recorder wire diameter?

Hi, folks-

Has anyone got a Detail Associates Speed Recorder TK 2807 (the one with the wire you have to strip before installing)?

I used the insulation on bent wire to simulate the universal joint on the A-line Gunderson cars, but that was back when the kits were new. I can't quite remember the diameter. Since the DA parts are a little scarce, I am looking on Ebay for an equivalent AWG so I can do these without sacrificing the wire from the kit.

   Any help appreciated!

      Cheers!

Out with the old, in with the new

Well in the process of moving, the railroad sort of got mangled. Which is okay because I planned on pulling it all up and rebuilding to the plans that I have shared in recent weeks. So track is up, subroadbed is in the trash. That will be replaced by something else that I haven't quite decided on yet. But the process will be slow and carefully done as this is the last model railroad I want to build. Famous last words, right?

DCC++ on Arduino supported by JMRI

When DCC++ was mentioned recently in Geoff Bunza's SMA20 thread I glanced briefly at the linked page on TrainBoard.  But when the latest production release JMRI 4.2 came out Christmas day and DCC++ is now a supported command station in JMRI I took a long second look.

Cornhill & Atherton - Vintage kit Caboose build

Inspired by Gary Christensen's recent TMTV caboose weathering articles, I dug an old caboose out of my kit archive with a view to trying out some of Gary's techniques.

Released in 1958 at a retail price of $5.10, this looks like a pleasant challenge which should result in a well detailed model.
I'll post a few construction pix as things progress and then the weathering attempts, following Gary's guidelines.

Movie Atomic Train

Watched a movie on YouTube called the Atomic Train.   It is a Doomsday movie.  Doomsday for Denver.  All through the movie people not following the rules or instructions set up Denver for disaster.  You will be. Surprised how many make it worse.   Like all movies involving trains they equipped the train cars with walkways and hand rails that don't exist on real trains for the action scenes and to keep the actors safe.

Athearn Mikado shorts with decoder but runs fine on DC

I have several Athearn Mikados and all ran fine when my layout was DC only. I recently converted all of them to DCC by installing TCS T1s but one loco's wheels are shorted when the decoder is installed. I swapped out decoders to verify all work properly, but this one pesky loco has me baffled. If I pull the decoder and put the dummy back in the loco runs fine, but put any decoder in and it shorts out.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? Anything I should look for when I disassemble this loco?

1st time installing DCC decoder

Hi Guys,

I'm installing NCE decoders in my Atlas MP-15s. The locos are DCC ready and equipped with LEDs.

Do I need to install resistors for the LEDs? or Are they already on the circut board?

Thanks

Scott
