Indianapolis Union Station: A Rivet Counter's Dream
At the beginning of this week I was in Indianapolis, Indiana for company training and stayed just across from Union Station. Now I know that's it's not modeling, but I also love the 1 to 1 scale trains and everything associated with them. I especially love the grand architecture of many of the old railroad stations. Here's some information from Wikipedia about Union Station:

Have a great time learning about how TT&TO's can add to the fun of operating your model railroad.

Scratchbuilding grab irons
I recently made my first foray into detailing a locomotive by adding grabs to an old Athearn locomotive. I'd classify it as not a total failure, especially for a first attempt. It was quite an enjoyable experience as well. Using advice I read here on these forums, I utilized staples to fabricate my own grabs, bending them on a pair of needle-nosed pliers. The overall effect is pretty good, though the staple grabs are pretty plainly larger than scale size (particularly when painted yellow and applied to a black locomotive).
Pembroke II: Engine House Ground
One of the challenges with building Pembroke in a house that is still under renovation is that some of my research material is buried. While the basement has been largely finished since before Christmas -- don't ask me about baseboards and that closet door -- there are still shelves and various cabinets to construct. So, I've been relying mostly on information on my Canada Atlantic research website and on my Flickr stream (mostly not public). One critical photo lives only in a BRMNA book, and it shows the relationship between the mainline and the area around the engine house.

What do you think of this track plan?
The year is 1974, and the B&O and Penn Central lines parallel each other along the Ohio River for most of the trip between Cincinnati and Aurora, IN. I'm trying to recreate the operations of this area at that time.

bad news for N Scale Southern Pacific modelers....
I have been in communication with a Micro-Trains rep on Facebook, and I have discovered that there will be issues......
"The new SW1500's will have an operating front light, not rear. We will release our first planned road names in the August Micro-News.
Our SP release will have the number board on the front of the cab, but will not include the unique headlight configuration."
no word yet on the trucks

Ring and DCC Specialties Compatibility
I inquired with DCC Specialities about using their PSX-1 and PSX-AR in conjunction with Ring Engineering power supplies. Here is the response I received:
The RailPro system is a proprietary system supported only by Ring Engineering. It uses radio control rather than DCC and uses a DC voltage on the tracks. The PSX series will not operate with DC, it was designed for DCC.
