One Town Layouts

This is a continuation of the One Town Layout blog. This blog is to share and discuss the merits of building a layout based on building a layout that models one town, or a small section of a larger city.

Feel free to add and share your comments.

Down at the Station

I have been very very derelict on posting anything on my blog for over a year. I know shame on me. Since we are focusing on the TOMA (the one module approach) concept here at the magazine I began to take a good long look at what I at my track plan. One of the features of TOMA is having a run off or staging area on each end of the module.

Down at the station

It has been a long time since I have posted anything. My schedule has been sideways for the past 7-8 months. However I have made some progress on the layout, but not near what I had planned or hoped to accomplish. I spent the better part of the summer building two skewed thru girder bridges.

Down at the Station

Its been a while since I have been able to post anything. My schedule for the month of September was hectic and so nothing was done on the layout for a while.

Anyway I had to back up and redo some of the joints on my backdrop. I discovered that the tape did not stick to the smooth surface of the hardboard. I ended up removing three joints and sanding the hardboard surface. That little bit of roughness seemed to do the trick. I repainted the backdrop and clouds.

Building a Backdrop

Following my advice in the Assistant Editors thoughts, I finished the garage and started working on the backdrop. Given the environment that the layout must reside, I built my backdrop with coved corners and coved overhead. This led to making what I term Gothic corners. The Gothic corners turned out to be more work than I anticipated. But more than that a little later on.  I began the backdrop construction by installing the shelf brackets and cutting curved sections so that I could cove the backdrop
