Blue Strip on Tank Car Ends?

I notice a lot of tank cars with blue paint in the upper quarter of the ends.

Does anybody know what the significance of this marking is?

Almost There!

On Monday, the UPS guy put the latest test-print of my N scale Metra F40PHM-2 into my eager hands.  I had hoped that this one would be "all systems go" and I could release the model for sale on Shapeways.  The parts fit together beautifully; and the print quality is about as good as I can reasonably expect from the medium.  However, while examining the model, I noticed that the side doors on the shell don't line up with the steps on the frame.  So I'll need to make one final adjustment and test-print before calling it finished.

SCARM track planning software reached v.0.9.22

Hello :)

The latest version 0.9.22 of free SCARM track planning software was released on www.scarm.info last weekend. Please upgrade to it if you're using SCARM 0.9.21 as there is an issue in  that may affect Copy/Paste functionality in the program on certain PCs. The new version also enables offline documentation and Parts List to be displayed on Windows 8 PCs.

Wolf Valley RR

Meet the Wolf Valley RR

Hi Everyone

I thought I might try posting a bit here about the Railroad I am currently slowly working on.

Glue before or after painting - to do or not to do?

Hi guys,

I have a very simple and silly question, bit embarrasing really...

Over the weekend I have kitbashed my first structure, as opposed to building a kit via instructions. All has come out really quite well.

The structure is glued together for the most part bar windows, doors and roof which all need painting together with the main structure.

Do I paint first, glue later?

or...

Do i glue first and then paint?

The latter is more tricky but will parts stick together after painting?

Thanks!

Soldering to Frogs on ME Microengineering Turnouts

Hi All,

Can anyone summarize your best technique for successfully soldering a feeder wire to the frog of a HO scale Microengineering #6 turnout (switch)?

I've been reading a bit of a horror story here:

http://espeecascades.blogspot.com/2013/02/my-micro-engineering-turnout-f...

So, given the above tale of woe, I am not interested in repeating the same experience.  Obviously, many of you out there have done this successfully on ME turnouts without issues, so what's your secret?

I've been laying track in one of the 10-track staging yards that are fed by the two spline helices that were built.  The picture below shows Staging Yard A on the right side of the peninsula.
