One more update

Work continued on the intermodal terminal.

The asphalt unloading zone is completed and it only needs a little dirt around the edge where it meets the scenery.

Decoder Installation

Being something of a masochist, I take perverse pleasure in making life hard for myself.  Rather than buy new DCC fitted Locos, I figured I should get 2nd hand DC Locos and fit decoders myself.  I started out installing basic 2 function decoders into various 2nd hand DC Locos.  Yep no real problems and even managed some with headlights.

Decals

I have been rebranding HO diesels to add to my C&O inventory.  I now find that there are no more decals available.  Can anyone help?

A problem I ran into!

When I started ballasting my spurs, I ran into a small problem!  I am using sifted dirt from my backyard and I have two sizes, fine and coarse.  In the coarse one, I realized that there was some once living things in it (mainly needles form the numerous conifers in the backyard) and thought that I would just remove it when I apply it.  Well, this turned out to be much more involving than I first thought!

Limestone block material for structures

What would be a good material to simulate limestone block with "natural" rough texture (not smooth block)?

For example, this train station (CNoR station in Thunder Bay) has 3 rows of block at the foundation, as well as some decorative elements.

RE: My two inspirations for getting back into (Check This Out)

model railroading came about as the result of my having boxes of stuff that I had not looked into for years after having re-married, selling my house and buying a "new to us" home.

HO Scale Car/Engine Shop Step 1: Square holes for square pegs

The first step to adding the Peco inspection pit to the Bachmann car shop was to glue up the basic pit.  First, removal of the extra tabs on the two end pieces.

The pit glues up nicely.  You'll see that the pit has molded in rail clips, and the car shop floor has molded in rail guides:
