Our club exhibition layout is a work in progress and on one of the 16 modules we decided to feature a Bar Mills kit “Hunch Landing” (a small fishing wharf/harbour). 

The module also hosts one of the exits from staging and this needed to be concealed with a deep cutting/tunnel. 

This Blog will describe the design and manufacture of Module Frames  for our new Club layout.

The aim of this blog is to discuss the viability of an Open Source Model Railroad Initiative. 

Having recently received my new ESU Cab Control and Mobile Control II throttle, I thought it might be useful to start a Blog and share experiences.  I have deliberately made this a blog rather than a topic but invite anyone who has an interest in this subject to add to the discussion.

To ease the typing I would like to introduce some abbreviations:

CC = Cab control (The ICU or command station)

MC 2 =  Mobile Control II ( The Android based handheld Throttle)

During the construction of my new layout,  http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/25098 had to up my game when it came to using servos.  The staging area is in a very inaccessible location so I decided to automate the twenty turnouts using servos, Arduino and JMRI.

I have learnt a great deal during the installation process and thought that it would be useful to share.

While steam locomotives are completely outside of my normal modeling type and era (modern CSX), I have a long held fascination with Shay Locomotives in particular and logging lines in general.

I therefore couldn't resist the opportunity to buy a Keystone Locomotives 2 Truck Shay Kit on our local auction site.

As Joe F has been saying their aren't enough scratch build articles, so I figured I would document my last little project. 

I have been slowly developing a little diorama on one of my sidings using Walthers Central Gas & Supply. One of the things that I wanted to add was some working yard lights.  Having perused what was available on the interweb, I could find nothing suitable and decided to make something myself.

I have just purchased a 2nd hand Kato SD40 for $54.  Research suggests that this particular model was first released in Apr 91 and that there were potentially some issues with reliable track pick up.  I then discovered this website http://www.dufordmodelworks.com/katohardwire.html which dealt with rectifying the pick up problems. Despite the flaws, I was keen to grab this item as their reputation for great running is very high. The item arrived in good shape but without any documentation.
