Building a Backdrop
Following my advice in the Assistant Editors thoughts, I finished the garage and started working on the backdrop. Given the environment that the layout must reside, I built my backdrop with coved corners and coved overhead. This led to making what I term Gothic corners. The Gothic corners turned out to be more work than I anticipated. But more than that a little later on. I began the backdrop construction by installing the shelf brackets and cutting curved sections so that I could cove the backdrop

The Hand of God
I know some folks don't want to see any grafitti covered railcars at all but I felt like this one was too good to pass up. You might remember a few weeks ago I posted a picture a friend of mine took of a rather fantastic piece of art done on a box car.

USMRR AT THE NMRA NAT CONVENTION 2013
I can't say enough about the craftsmanship in this modular display about the USMRR in 1864. This individual has gone way past the word excellent. Not only has he modeled something to great detail that is fantastic, but was done to the exact point in time and knows the whole story of what went on and how it was done. Hope you enjoy. Engines are run on Batteries and it is remote controlled.

The Future of DCC
With all the newer technology out there and the speed that it advances, where is the future of DCC really heading, especially in the smaller scales? I understand that most of the technology in our DCC Systems has long been “out of date” compared to the growth and speed of its advancement.
Ring Engineering has proven there can be advancements to the DCC systems and the ease of its inner workings (programing and customizing settings of each loco) so why can’t Digitrax, NCE and others do the same?
Pembroke II: Half a Test Turnout
You'd be excused to think that it's a little late to go testing my planned turnout construction. But well, I'm changing it up yet again on this layout, and the Proto:87 posse was in danger of passing me. So, we raced ahead with everything else before finalizing construction techniques. If it doesn't work out, I can always retreat to PC board ties!
Dust Control Options
My proposed layout will share a corner of my basement shop. I have room about 13 by 20 and plan to use about 8 feet at one end for the layout. The layout will be attached to two maybe three walls.
The rest of the shop will be used for woodworking. The router, table saw and lathe create a considerable amount of dust. I have a dust collector and a fine dust suspended air filter. Still a fine layer of dust is everywhere.
I am looking for some options to keep the layout "cleaner." Some ideas I have had are:

Short animated video
Here's a (realy) short video clip I made. This is stop motion animation. About 100 frames = a bit over 3 seconds of video...
Hoarce sez he likes it. Kinda fun although it's a lot of work.

Genesis Bay Window Caboose. What decoder is installed?
I'm trying to use JMRI Decoder Pro to change/set CV's in a (factory lighted) Athearn Genesis Bay window Caboose.
It wont respond at all. Using a seperate dedicated programming track (just a couple atlas rerailers on a piece of wood) with a PR3 (with a power-pax booster in line) With this setup I can program Tsunami's all day long. But for some reason I cant get this decoder to "wake up"
So I figured if I at least knew the decoder type, I could create a JMRI roster entry by hand and then maybe it would respond.
