Industry Switching Questions,...Cement Silo
Like many folks I am including a Walther's Medusa Cement structure on my layout. Originally it was just going to sit over in one of the back corners of the layout behind the brick factory. It was going to be serviced by a single siding track branching off the outer of two mainline tracks that circle the perimeter of the room. I had found a way to connect the other end of that cement siding back into another track that is also connected to that same mainline track, ...albeit in a more indirect manner.
Saturday Solo Ops Session - The Haddam Local
Here's hoping you and yours are having a wonderful holiday season! If you have some time, and would like to experience a little of what it's like to operate a local freight in south central Connecticut in the Autumn of 1948 (or at least get a taste of what it's like to operate on my layout), grab a cup of coffee & settle in for a ride up the Valley Line.
Using Full-Sized Prototype Radius curves?
I've been interested in designing a layout that uses full-scale, prototype-sized curves without resorting to any 'selective compression'. For N scale this works out to 43" radius curves (1150 scale feet in diameter) to represent a 10-degree curve on the prototype. My thought is that it would better represent the 'flow' of a real train as it negotiates such a curve, and that replicating such movement is a subliminal way to enhance overall realism. The other benefit is that it should make it easier to run longer trains with fewer issu
Merry Christmas! STS version 4 released (Shipper-driven Traffic Simulator)
Just in time for Christmas, I've posted Version 4 of the Shipper-driven Traffic Simulator to the 'net. Here's a link to the folder that contains the STS software and documentation:

Incline Logging Video
I just watched a fascinating video on logging,...more specifically incline logging operations. Very well presented
Creating Waybills
A question was asked about how to create "waybills", I moved it out of the thread on the existing article.
Part of that question depends on what type of waybills are you creating (2 move, 4 move, prototype, waybills for a particular software package, etc.)
Generally what I do is I use a spreadsheet to organize the effort.
I list each station on my railroad.
I list each industry/track/spot at each station.
