This is the third of the named Santa Fe passenger trains of the past to show passenger and express switching at Union Station plus a short viewing of the train’s travel on the layout. (Note: A tour and functionality of the lower-level staging area was provided in a previous set of videos about a year ago.)

This time we travel eastbound on the Super Chief, train #18, from Los Angeles up the west helix through Paradigm into Union Station, perform some switching, and then continue down the east helix to Chicago. This train has a much simpler switch list in that it only has to drop off an RPO and a 10-6 sleeper for return to the coach yard.

The train consists of 12 cars (all Kato except for one Con-Cor and an Arnold shorty RPO) and is led by a Broadway Limited E6 A-B-A engine set. The train will arrive on track #9 (under the passenger canopy) where an old decoupling tool will be used to unhook the RPO and 10-6 sleeper (that are located as the second & third cars of the consist). The road engines will then place the two cars onto track# 10 for a switcher to move them after the Super Chief has departed Union Station.

This is the switch list that was developed for this train for both the westbound and eastbound consists:
