Coal Shed

Another project in the works,

A two track coal shed that was in the December 1979 issue of Model Railroader.

I wanted to build a model of this building ever since I first read the article in the summer of 1989.

Fast tracks

Reading Joe's book on track work, and looking at getting a jig for switch building, but my concern is with the frog, as I don't feel too comfortable with building them and I'm wondering what options if any would work

Something you don't see everyday ...

Apparently, this track shift is the result of the recent NZ earth quake ....  Hope everyone down there is safe.

Terminal Blocks

Hi everyone,

I was looking for some product recommendations in regards to terminal blocks. This would be for 18-22 gauge solid copper wire connections (track feeders mainly). I am looking for an assortment of block sizes with two screw terminals. What do you use on your layout? I am wiring track with flexibility in the future and the ability to troubleshoot.

Thanks!

Back to HO after 20+ Years

Well I have successfully ebay'd completely all of my N-scale related stuff.  All rolling stock, loco's, scenery, structures and structure flat scenes.  So after deleting a sizeable layout I decided that a small (8 x 10) along the wall HO switching layout would be in order.

In praise of Proto87 spikes!

Sometimes it pays to revisit things we’ve tried in the past but didn’t particularly like at the time. And, sometimes it also pays to beat back perfectionism and take a compromising, albeit better, path.

Finally Getting to the Track on the Office Park Zone

I had a number of little tasks that were blocking me from starting track laying on the Office Park Zone.  I needed to get the removable cassette/extension built. I needed to finish converting my Shinohara turnouts to make them DCC-friendly (rework the points and replace the frogs).  I also wanted to add small wood blocks for additional support under the ends of the track at each benchwork joint.

Now that those tasks are complete, I can start putting the track into place.  Progress!

input or advice?? on Peco code 83 Ho scale

Anyone out there have any input/advice  on Peco code 83 flex track? Photos?

Is this overkill for a branchline terminus?

Is it more prototypical to have a track to the turntable coming from the mainline instead of the runaround track?

Lessons learned from hobby fears

My recent victory over a long-held fear of adding ditch lights has prompted me to think about a number of similar concerns I've had over the years and, once they were behind me, the great rewards I discovered hiding on the other side.  In hopes of encouraging others who might be letting their own phobias get in the way of their hobby enjoyment as I too often do, here are a few of my fears and the lessons they taught me:
