Trackwork

Radius
A couple questions. 1. What is the minimum radius for a helix in HO scale?
2. Would a broader radius reduce drag?

When do you apply ballast?
Hi all,
I am wondering when others apply ballast to trackwork?
Is it before or after grasses etc get applied to the surrounding scene?
Is it better to apply the ballast first then apply static grasses up to the ballast?
I am ballasting a small section at the moment and have already applied 2mm static grass right up to the roadbed formation, but when I place the ballast, it's sitting on top of the grass and just doesn't look right.
Cheers.

Former Time Saver Plus - Major Expansion
This was my latest creation based on the Time Saver switching puzzle plan in HO scale. It will now be expanded based on a 13 year old former(?) layout that has been stored in my son's garage!!!
I have had various train setups and layouts over the years, but never with scenery (or even ballast). After decades of armchair railroading, I am attempting to really build something worth having.

Switches made with fast Tracks jigs
I have been working on building switches with the Fast Tracks jigs. I have the jigs for the left and right #6 and the wye #6.
I have learned a few things after making a few dozen switches:
1. Polish the circuit board tie with a few passes of a file, it should be shinny. Cut the gap before you put the tie in the jig. I cut both the top and bottom, I have had a short where some solder had dripped down and made a connection with the bottom foil. Very hard to find.

A first (after all these decades) - Ballast
Hard to believe, but I have never painted or ballasted track. So yesterday I decided to give it a try. Jumped right in and didn't bother to check out "how to" threads here or elsewhere, knowing I knew everything I needed to know. WRONG! I used my test track that I use to program my decoders or to test running of engines with my Raspberry Pi 3 and JMRI. First big mistake was I didn't wet the ballast properly with the right solution and then didn't bother to scrap, research, and do it right. It turned "eh" but was happy with the painting.
Car Float Rail
All,
Looking for suggestions on how to secure code 83 rail to a scratchbuilt carfloat. I'm planning on using MDF covered by styrene for the body. I saw a MRRV video on the Rice Harbor layout where they used PECO inspection pit parts to secure the rail. That works for a two track float when the float rails are straight.

Sliding Wye Extension
I ended up with a bit of a dilemma when laying out the Wye on the final section of my HOn3 PC&N Ry. In order to have the Wye fit and leave enough room for at least one engine and car at the far end, I would have to tighten up the Wye radius to 18". I really wanted to keep my 22" minimum radius but that meant the Wye wouldn't even have enough room for a single engine at the far end.

Question on Laying Walthers Flex Track
I’m getting ready to lay my flex track starting off the outside radius of the turnout and I have a question to all who read this. Is it really as easy as spreading the adhesive, putting the track down with thumbtacks and adjusting the ties before the adhesive sets? Videos I have found are laying flex track on straightaways or using Micro Engineering track that you curve beforehand.

Fleischmann Profi-Track Turnouts
Has anyone had experience with Fleischmann Profi-track turnouts?
I have quite a number of them that I acquired sometime ago, and I plan on using them along with a good number of Peco turnouts on my new layout. They appear to be quite well made.
Just wondering if anyone cares to elaborate on their experiences using them??
