Benchwork - Roadbed

Busy Weekend

It was a busy weekend in our house between kids activities and sleepovers, regular household duties and having some visitors over.  Between all of that activity I managed to get the DCC booster and transformer moved to their permanent home on a shelf under the layout.  I found an old shelf from a home entertainment center that was not being used for anything to house the electronic gizmos.

Free standing modules

I have had some request to share the design of my free standing modules. I had a few criteria for my new layout.

1. Since the layout will be in a spare bedroom it will be a round-the-walls design. The space is 10 feet against the back wall and 14 feet against the side wall in an L shape design.

Solution for ballast color darkening when dried

Anyone have a solution to ballast darkening when dried using traditional method of wetting ballast and applying scenic cement or diluted white glue?  My ballast is the right color but when dry it is significantly darker?  Solution anyone?

Benchwork analysis paralysis

Logically I would wait until I had a relatively finalized track plan but since the train room also serves as storage (underneath and possible above) and laundry room, I have to move forward on that front.

I have acquired single track shelving and "16 brackets like below

Last of the Fascia Control Panels completed...

Today I worked on creating the last of the Fascia Panels for the layout.

This panel is the Carlisle Junction panel and is the major interchange between Conrail/Reading & Chessie System/D&H railroads.

ARZC Layout Update

It has been a long time since my last update.  Part of that is due to an addition to our family, we had our first child at the beginning of July, she takes up most of our time, but it is wonderful.  I've been working where I can on the layout, mainly getting the subroadbed, roadbed and mainline track installed as well as getting some rough cut fascia put up.  I now have a fully functional mainline loop for a continuous run, just need to cut the circuit breakers in when I get there.

Colorado Front Range end of year update

Big change after a brain storm on setting up a Turntable and Roundhouse.Locomotive facilities are starting to take shape. Using .040 Plastic sheet 27" by 8 feet  to cove the comers. New signs have arrived at the Layout to label towns and area.

Gap Masters ? Anybody using these?

Does anybody have experience with Gap Masters?  Product is shown here;http://Americantieandtimber.com/4.html

For those layouts that must be built "moveable" or a portion of the layout moved after you are done with the layout for the day this would seem to be a way to go.  I'm curious to know from experienced users of the product what their opinion is.
