Locos - Rolling stock (general)
Brass Hallmark CF 7
Recently came upon my latest engine, a nice brass "Hallmark CF 7" Santa Fe had most of these, they were F 7's redone with a GP Cab, this unit runs well after a bit of cleaning, Grinds a bit louder than my other stuff but like to see it run.
Who makes HO 30"-33" roof ladder grab irons? -- for heavyweight passenger cars
Detail Associates makes a nice 24" wide one, #6603, but I need some that are approx. 30"-33" for a Santa Fe baggage-express car. The Walthers Heavyweight Chair Car, #932-10352, includes one (see photo). I need four so I will take them from four kits but would like to have more for other cars. I'm sacrificing the chair cars anyway to get the steam-ejector A/C units and other parts for Suydam brass car bodies. These are for my 1939 ATSF California Limited model -- details are posted elsewhere in this forum.
Article Ideas/Suggestions?
In my various yahoo groups & forums that I peruse I've noticed complaints about MR magazine getting away from the more detailed modeling topics like scratch building Locos & Rolling stock.
I thought why not suggest this to MRH since MR has a different goal for their publication. I for one enjoy their magazine but nevertheless I am interested in how to get started in scratch building of Locos particularly in N-scale.
Athearn Genesis F7 coupler/truck problem
I have looked several places and either I can't find or no one else has had this problem. After owning for several years, but not operating my Genesis F units because of the crummy MRC decoders, I have replaced the decoders with Soundtraxx decoders. What a difference! But now I have a new problem!
MRC Speaker Impedance in Athearn Genesis SD45-2
Hello Everyone!
I have an Athearn Genesis SD45-2 that I will fit with a Tsunami TSU-GN1000 - EMD 645 sound decoder. I'm really itching to get this DSD installed but I don't know what impedance rating the speaker has. The engine was fitted with the MRC system. I know Tsunami DSD's all use 8 ohm speakers and I need to know if the speaker used with the MRC system is compatible with Soundtraxx Tsunami's. I really don't want to blow up a $100 DSD!
What's your weirdest derailment?
Everyone knows that turnouts are where most derailments happen.
The most frequent cause of derailments is operator carelessness - when they run a turnout set against them and the loco pops off the tracks (works this way only with dead/insulated frogs otherwise the locos short when they hit the wrong way turnouts).
But one of the most bizarre derailments comes from a completely different souce sometimes.
LEHIGH VALLEY PAINT QUESTION
I have a set of the Athearn Genesis lehigh valley f units which are painted a beautifull cornell red with black stripes. I am interested in painting a B unit, and this red looks lighter than some i've seen. Can anyone help me with which brand of cornell red most closely matches these or would you suggest a mixing formula. Thanks for the help. Mark
FRED
Hello.
Anybody have an idea how to make a FRED/end of train device.
Im not runnig with caboose and need a way to see if the last car are with the train.
I think about something to hang on the coupler.
Thanks in advance.

Hans Ole
My Newest Caboose
I had been hanging onto an old MDC plastic caboose kit, ( I detest ready to run), I finally broke down and built it today, one because I found I already had the correct decals on hand, and two I was bored, so here she is, still needs a brake wheel standard, but I will use Athearn parts for those since the MDC parts provided weren't correct.
Most Wanted Detail Parts?
So, I've been thinking, as I'm wandering rolling stock, what type of rolling stock details are missing?
Here's the start of my HO scale list:
- High capacity Dreadnaught boxcar ends
- Corrugated boxcar ends
- 60' X panel roof
- sine-wave boxcar ends
- 125T plastic trucks with 38" wheels (Code 110 & Code 88)
Several of these products are available, just not separately. I'd hate to cut of a Athearn/Roundhouse FMC boxcar to the the corrugated ends.
