Locos - Rolling stock (general)

1890's Burton Horse Car project

Hey Folks

Here's a recent shot of a project I've been working on a bit at a time over the last 5 years, now close to being finished.  It's a kitbashed model of a Burton Stock Car Co. Horse car from the 1890's.

How to make cars roll as well as Kato well cars

Hello everybody,

I bought a set of Kato well cars in HO.  Hooked the three cars together and could not believe how well these cars roll.  What is it with the trucks and axles that Kato uses that makes them roll that well?  I use the truck tuner and P2K or IM steel axles as a rule on all my equipment.  Unfortunately nothing rolls as good as the Kato cars.

Thank you for the replies.

Algonquin Railway Gondolas

Here is a pic of my first home road cars.  P2k Gondolas modified to look more like Canadian prototypes built by National Steel Car.  I Still need to weather them, but I am happy with this first effort.  More info on my newly created Blog.

1900 models - or a little bit older

Three new models in my stock ...

... old time 27' drop bottom gondolas of NYO&W where the prototypes were built in 1890.
Nice models but with need of some repairs and additions.

And this is why we are losing hobby shops

So, yesterday I score a SW7 Calf (Powered) to go with my IC SW7 Cow(powered).  Now the calf is the wrong railroad (B&O), so it needs to be repainted, and BOTH units need to be renumbered.

Good news is the calf already has the white stripes in the correct position for my IC railroad, and the rest of the engine is flat black, except for the numbers.

(And I have a guy to send the pair to for DCC installation.)

A beautiful day in the neighborhood...

...for a Trolley!

Trolley

"Scrapbashed" from a Bachmann N-scale Brill trolley and mated to a Kato 11-104 powered chassis (with the ends trimmed off).  Will be mated with a 2'x2' N-scale microlayout version of the HO-scale train set that used to open/close Mister Rogers' Neighborhood TV show.

Acrylic over solvent or vise versa

It has been a while since I painted a loco or passenger car. Can you airbrush acrylic over solvent or solvent over acrylic. I know one works and the other creates a mess. I don't want the mess. Please advise.
