Backdrop painting - your opinion please
O.K. - please be honest and tell me what you think about this backdrop sample I painted earlier this morning. I used cadmium yellow and mars black mixed to make the colors. If using a computer you can click on the images to get a larger view.
For this first view I stuck it up behind the Buck & Loretta scenery.
For this next view I stuck it behind a siding on the opposite wall.

How to model a stream - a cheap way?
Hi to all, here how I made my little stream on the edge of a layout I built for a friend of mine.
First, you have to know I wanted to model a little creek close to a spring wetland. The layout is set in the Central California region.
Well, I guess the first step is to figure where the stream will be, just before starting to "create" mountains...
Balsa Wood for scratch building vs Basswood. Who supplies it?
So, I'm building this wharf and using dowels and 3/8 x 3/8 strip wood from Home Depot. Now I need to put on some floor joist and deck boards. The only thing locally is Balsa wood. I would prefer basswood or something similar. Does Hobby Lobby or some other craft store carry basswood?
Left Over Lumber
IT'S COLD OUTSIDE! The Greater Nickel Plate spur has made some improvements that should keep everyone warm and toasty. It took awhile what with a pile of lumber, being color blind and some ingenuity adaptation from the original kit - - like adding a light over the door to the office and a bin for old tires I happened to have.
Kitbashed building flats - part 2
continuing the kitbashed building flats project, this episode is all about painting. I use hand-brushed crafters acrylics for almost all my painting projects.
here we have applied a very uneven coat of the brick colour. I use different colours for each building, or at least a couple different shades so they don't all look like they were built at the exact same time with the same bricks. I want matching era, but not necessarily matching builder and suppliers. Paints used - Heritage Brick, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Primary Red. Some used straight, some mixed.
