Scenery - Structures
Working Transfer Crane (0 gauge)
I thought this might be of interest - I've built it for my next layout - a small industrial theme, 8' x 4' .
The girder is fabricated from brass, the trolley and hook are machined from brass, and the cable is 0.8mm diameter silver 'snake-chain'.

Card board buildings
Hi
A friend showed me this : http://www.scalescenes.com/. It looks interesting but it is based on UK prototypes. Are there any US suppliers with US paper models?

Replacement for Floquill Driftwood, Walnut, and Pine staining replacements
Does anyone have a substitute for the Floquill products Driftwood, Walnut and Pine Staining. In the past, I have used these products. However, my bottles of products have dried out and I need to replenish my stock of paints. I look forward to your suggestions.
Coloring Rock Formations
I am having difficulty in coming up with a color formula for a rock formation which I created. The color that I desire is more of an orange brown (see picture below). This scene was taken on a vacation to Colorado. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Building lighting
I am after some ideas on how to stop light showing through lighted plastic structures.
I am not sure whether to paint the inside of the building or fix card stock or something similar.
I have reduced the intensity of the light but I am still getting that skeletal appearance.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Some uses for Water Putty
Here In Australia we have Agnew's Water Putty which is identical to the American product Durham's Water Putty.
The manufacturer recommends you mix it mix it three parts putty to one part water. I never measure exactly. Near enough seems to be good enough. It dries rock-hard and it can be sanded and sawn.
You can add acrylic paint to it as well, but in my experience doing so actually hastens the drying. The normal working time of 30 minutes is reduced significantly. This is contrary to what it says on the label, but I swear it's true.

Richlawn RR V2 - Backdrop painting or printed, horizon, & 2" foam hills
***Revised 2/20/14*** My grand experiment is finished - printed backdrop it is! See my latest post on this thread.
***Revised 2/17/14*** New painting with less of a yellow tint - see the latest posting at the end of this thread. *** Revised 2/16/14*** Please see my latest posting at the end of this thread where I have attempted to paint a backdrop using both an airbursh for the clouds and distant hills and using a brush for closer tries following Chris Lyon's technique. Please give me your opinion. Thanks!
