The Sights and Sounds of Big Thunder Creek

There's a new post on the Thunder Mesa site today about putting the finishing touches on my Big Thunder Creek scene. This is part four in the series and covers sound effects, landscaping and other details. There's also a new video:

Question about Walthers HO 130 ft turntable and modern roundhouse

I plan to use the Walthers 130 ft turntable and modern Roundhouse (12 stalls worth) on the layout I am designing. I would like to know how far the roundhouse sits from the turntable given the 10 degree stall spacing of the roundhouse.  From photos it looks like the roundhouse sits about only 4" away from the turntable?

Thanks.

HO Gas Meters and Electrical Service Weatherheads

I am detailing a contemporary Rix/Pikestuff metal building kit in HO. Recently I saw some castings of gas meters. Can't find them at LHS or Walthers or usual detail casting sources, and didn't bookmark the website. Anyone else see this?

Alternatively, any ideas on scratchbuilding the gas meter and electrical service weatherhead?

Thanks,

Dixon

Making Trees

Howdy Folks. I've been reviewing quite a few model Railroading video's and info on building layout scenery and trees trying to get back up to date on things again. I see a lot of excellent info on the subjects from a lot of great people with lots of great ideas. one of my winter projects is to try and make trees for my layout. The only problem is that store bought trees for model railroads are not cheap and they only come with a few in a bag.

Scale Model Animation 14: Grade (or Level) Crossing Control

Model animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! This edition covers one element for animating grade crossings—triggering and control using infrared detectors, servo motors, LEDs, and an Arduino Pro Mini for timing and control.

scenery improvements

My 3 and 6 year olds thought my scenery needed some work so they went to work. Not sure if the proto police will allow this but looks good for now.

Glo-Brite Cleaning Products

For the longest time this triangle of real estate in the corner of the 22nd Avenue Secondary has remained barren and empty, with no apparent development in sight. I have wrestled with this space almost since the construction of the benchwork, never having come up with a good plan for what to do with it. Besides the obvious angle-induced problems, whatever landed there had to keep the food distributor in the back accessible for switching.

Weathering Wood

I have been reading the different methods that everyone has been using to weather wood.

I have been using one of two methods for 40 or more years.

The first is to take a bottle of white vinegar and some fine steel wool.  Get a large jar and  insert the steel wool.
