Homemade Static Grass

I picked up a couple of these brushes at Walmart for about a $1.30 apiece.  I dipped one in 50/50 green acrylic paint/water and left the other natural.  I cut random lengths with scissors and applied with my electric flyswatter static grass applicator.  Not too bad for a micro investment.

Paper Model Prairie Grain Elevator

I am wondering if anyone on MRH might be familiar with this (apparently defunct) website:

http://www.angelfire.com/empire/auction/Members-Paper-Models.html

I used to have the author’s files downloaded but suffered a hard-disk failure on that machine, and no longer have the files. It appears the site is no longer active – as I cannot get the download links to appear on either of my two browsers.

Finally -- Working on the Napanee Viaduct

After having entirely too much fun this summer doing anything but working on the railroad, I am finally back at it. Started to build the landscaping contours around the Napanee River -- which forced me to expand what I was using to represent the viaduct. Today it is a two track arrangement and there are traces on the existing stonework that at some time it was widened to handle the second track. With the usual poetic license and rather extreme compression, the original river valley has been reduced to a section of the falls.

Another Animated Door....

I was inspired to try this by the recent post by Rich (Richlawn RR) on Animating a Door.  So thanks again Rich!

This is a scratch built structure that I had started last winter which still had an accessible interior, so it was a good candidate for a powered door..

Scenery and structures

I've been looking on E-bay for various static grass applicators and have seen listings for this applicator and

was wondering if anyone has used it and what the results are.

Thanks,

Howard

Sometimes I just love being a pack rat

So, as I talked about earlier, I am working on a church.  The new method of doing the stain glass windows are working great, just have to go slow and work my way around the building.  And Ivy for later.

The light sockets are glued down for inside the building, and the electrical switch works to turn them on and off.  They light up the stain glass windows nicely when the building is placed.

3 different colors of grass are mixed onto the base, with painted concrete walks and blacktop road and parking lot.

Not what I expect to have to do

So, for a while I have been working on a scratch built church.  1 of the items I have thought I had a bead on was adding stained glass windows.  Well, over the last 3 days, I have learned "not so fast".

Step 1 was to find photos of such windows on the internet and copy them to my hard drive.

Step 2 was to resize the windows I finally chose to the opening size in the window frames.  (Note that there are 4 different size windows, 3 done with the casts and 1 done custom by me.)

Sugar Cane layout by Jack Luyt this one has animation.

I found this one while looking at videos for HOn3 layouts.  This is very well done.  He models the tropics very well.

Background painting

Some of you guys will remember that I tried my hand at painting to see if I could produce an acceptable backdrop for my Richlawn Railroad.  I wasn't able to produce the quality I wanted so I ended up using a printed backdrop by Backdrop Junction which I really like.  Although I couldn't get the results I wanted, I got bitten by the "painting bug".  Over the years I've enjoyed watching painting shows like Bob Ross and his "wet on wet" technique using oils.  I purchased some how-to painting videos by painter Wilson Bickford along  with
