SMA11 – Build a MicroScene and Extend Your Hobby to Others
I am often asked by family and friends, “What are you working on?” Explaining the joy and intricacies of model railroading and my personal interest in animation sometimes does not quite capture everything I would like to convey. But I happened to come upon a far more effective means of accomplishing this in short order, by building small “MicroScenes” which I use as gifts to introduce people to my work and the model railroading hobby. I cannot begin to tell you the impact this has had! It is simply overwhelming. Read on.
Another New Structure on the New Orleans Great Northern
I just completed construction of a Sierra West Tractor and Logging Repair Shed. The original is set "Out West" in the late 1880 -1890 era. I model the late 1920's in SE Louisiana. The wooden roof of the original would not work in this environment, so I replaced it with a heavily weathered/rusted metal roof. I also added interior lighting. The detailed interior was such that I could not leave it in the dark - and by the 1920's electric lighting was the norm anyway. Thought you might enjoy seeing the pictures.

My Most Recent Structure Project
What happened to my blog post that I made yesterday? It was showing my most recent building project. That post had to do with the building of the Atlas Middlesex Mfg. kit
West Toronto Junction: September layout update
Greetings everyone,
I've managed to get a bit of work done on my layout over the summer, but the work will really start to intensify in the coming weeks as fall sets in.
I've managed to paint track, get some basic scenery down and put down the parking lot around the Lambton yard office.
My Latest Structure Project
My Latest Structure. It is a Atlas Middlesex Kit.
Richlawn RR V2 - Palmer Kitbash Structure overhead door animation - UPDATED 10/1/14
*** UPDATED 10-1-14 ****
I've added a picture near the end of this thread showing the progress on the building.
O.K. - I know it's jerky, but at least the door opens and closes on my Palmer structure using animation. I've used the servo and controller from Tam Valley to provide the motion. I like the unit because it allows me to set the end points of movement and also the speed of the movement. I've got more work to do on the project but wanted to show what I've got so far.
Algonquin Railway Eastern White pines
Over the last two weekends I have been making up a batch of trees. The Algonquin region of Ontario I model is full of Eastern White Pines, Hemlocks, Cedars and Spruces for Evergreens. To model these I have used a few different techniques. For the Eastern White Pines or (EWP's) I make them one at a time branch by branch per the method developed by Mike Confalone in his Modelling outside the Box DVD's.
Walthers HO Sand Tower track centers?
Does anyone have the track centers for the Walthers HO scale sand tower kit? None are given on the kit and I'd like to get some additional track planning done. Thanks.
