Modifying a Banta Water Tank for Thunder Mesa On30
Here are some photos of my recent build: a Banta Modelworks Branch Line water tank. I modified the kit with a scratch-built roof and a few other details. SBS details on the Thunder Mesa website.
Passengers in Vehicles
Has anyone tried or have tips regarding how I might add figures (Drivers / Passengers) to HO vehicles? I've always been annoyed with 'empty' cars and trucks driving down the street. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Finished scratchbuilt industry structure
Here are a few unprofessional phone pics in the backyard. The scenery base is concrete (read plaster of paris) and drying inside. This is the building built around the animated Tortoise driven door I've been working on.
I don't really know what purpose the building will serve yet, or what to call it, so no signs yet. I just wanted something industrial that held two 50' boxcars.
Suggestions on what it might or could be would be appreciated!
Help Me Pick My Background Building
I'm finishing the back corner of the Southside Industrial District. A spur passes in front of the backdrop and I'm filling some empty space with a background building.
I've mocked up a couple of options, which will follow in responses to this thread. My final selection will be cleaned up with details, etc.
Here is the space. The trackage serves a chemical complex, but this particular building will be a nondescript warehouse kind of thing in the background.
Richlawn RR V2 - Palmer structure interior / office
When the overhead door is open on the Palmer building the interior will be revealed so I added some detail to make the view more pleasing. This is a work in process but I wanted to share what I've done thus far.
Here's the view from a distance:
Tea Time! A Brief Manifesto
I like tea. (I am just not a coffee person)
Now, my tea enjoyment can go beyond the cup...... and onto my model railroad! (Part 3 of my "Low (or No) Cost Ways to Enjoy Your Hobby" series)
Brush Painting
I have to paint some small plastic detail parts for a structure I am building. When I moved 5 years ago I made a decision to toss my paint collection, something that I had collected over 20 years. I wanted to start fresh. Now that I am back into modeling, I regretted that the moment I saw that Testors killed Polly S and Floquil. I like solvent based paints for airbrushing and am going to try TruColor in the next few weeks. However, I need something that is Acrylic that I can use with a brush at my desk.
My Essex Terminal Black Bridge scenery after small rebuild
After about a year I have rebuilt my layout. There is track laying to be done, I thought I'd give the bridge some scenery. I will add more trees finish the creek. I haven't done scenery for about 15 years.
Stuff Sitting Everywhere
It strikes me increasingly that, in the modern world, there is stuff sitting everywhere. It seems hard to walk to any retail establishment today without crashing into some large object designed to sell - or rent - me something, or get me to donate something. A visit to my local grocery store presented an amazing array of stuff sitting on the porch, in the parking lot; everywhere. The gas station across the street presented a similar array of objects strewn throughout the property. Examples:
