I'm finishing the back corner of the Southside Industrial District. A spur passes in front of the backdrop and I'm filling some empty space with a background building.

I've mocked up a couple of options, which will follow in responses to this thread. My final selection will be cleaned up with details, etc.

Here is the space. The trackage serves a chemical complex, but this particular building will be a nondescript warehouse kind of thing in the background.

I like building one

For its brooding personality.

...

... it seems that placing a *building* in that space accentuates the leaning walls/tanks of the chemical complex.  Is it something that you can fix in an image editor?

Where is the location?

The building with all the windows on the left looks like it belongs in an older city while the chemical plant on the right looks like the outskirts of an expanding town.  In between could be a light industrial area I guess so I'd go with something 60's era and small like a tilt up or prefab shop or supply house ,etc. I think the red cardboard mock up is too big for that place and the other two look like they should have rail service ......DaveB

The Clever looks best.

How about trying something for a test?  Take the Clever model, use it as a template to cut out a blank the same shape.  Place both against the open space allowing overlap of the two buildings on both sides.  Does it push those two further back?  Does it hide some of the distortion?

Now what if you create an alley between the two?  Can you get a photo of a chain link fence with dumpsters, scale it and place between the two buildings.  How does it look now?

Just some thoughts.

Final Answer

Thanks for all the input. The picture of the chemical complex had been nudged when I took the photo and it also has a view block in front of most of it, so it doesn't look so bad in real life.

I went with the red corrugated building because of the mass it gives to the scene. Still some more detail and weathering to add, but here is the scene as it looks now.
