How to Paint Static Grass

This week I'm looking at painting static grass - useful for when it just doesn't look right.

Line Poles

Since the Springfield show my "occasional blog" has become more regular. The topics jump around a bit, since I'm working on a lot of things when I can squeeze in the time. The most recent post is how I'm building line poles:

But there have been a lot of new posts since the beginning of February.

Happy Modeling!

What is the architectural feature called?

Hi,

Could somebody identify what you'd call this notched pattern?  Does anybody make styrene strips with this already in?  I'm not sure what I should be Googling to find it.

3D printers and Craft cutters

I now own a 3d printer and a craft cutter. Ive been looking around the web and found a few sites that had stuff for model railroading, and maybe I just haven't found it yet, but what would be nice is a place where we all could share info, tips, tricks and files.  Ive printed a few other folks files and made a few myself.  I think MRH is the place to post that kind of stuff, but Im not too sure about how or where on the site to do that?

No-Rail layout

A few photo's of a small No-Rail layout I`m building.

A frame made of 1/2" birch plywood and 2" pink foam.

Getting a rough idea as to what goes where.

Cut the first layer of foam by using a template that I made out of masking paper.

Progress update on BEDT

Layout update.

Added a few new photos of the layout. I have added some buildings to my version of Kent Ave. Still have to add some detail items, etc.

The Current Structure Build on CNW

I have started another scratch build project for the CNW Peninsula Div. It is the F.H. Kearney & Co. feed mill located in Ironwood, MI. I found the plans in the August, 2009 issue of Model Railroader mag. The plans were for a N scale structure and since I model in HO they needed to be enlarged so as to get a HO scaled drawing. Office Depot was able to do this for a very reasonable cost. Follow along for the build.

How to Revamp your Static Grass

This week's video looks at what to do when you've already done your static grass and it needs a revamp.

WWS are bringing out a new layering spray which will enable them to ship it to North America.

Need Advice With Weathering A Structure

I am trying to apply some weathering to an O scale model of a modern industrial building.  Normally, I would apply a wash of diluted enamels, let is dry a bit, and then use mineral spirits to stump it off: leaving the weathering color in all of the nooks and crannies.  Unfortunately every time I try to stump the wash, all of paint comes off leaving me with patches of bare styrene.

The model is styrene over a foamboard core; it is painted with Testors Model Master enamels.
