Layout design
Huey P. Long pt2
I think I found enough to start designing my plan.

Now, this is the master plan for widening the traffic lanes, but it also gives the span types and footages.
If any one has a contact number for the Crescent City Model Rairoad Club, please post it as the link on the site comes up error 404.
Thanks

Huey P. Long
On a related note to Mr Powers excellent work, he mentions acquiring plans for the station from someone, but I cannot find the name.
The reason is, I am stuck down here in New Orleans working as Engineer and I need HO scale plans for the Huey P. Long bridge.
I have checked with the New Orleans Public Belt and they do not have any thing that is usable.
I do plan to take digital photo's as I take trains over the bridge.
So If any one knows if plans exist and where to get them I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Track design software
Is it me or are the Design Layout softwares hard to use. I have tried a couple of times over the years to use Atlas Software (free) to try and design my layout on the computer to see what it will look like. I have struggled with the whole thing, from trying to have "Benchwork" design saved.... to creating my design on the page. Just not into Cad program I guess.
I have read some of the Manual ( 227 pages! ) but isn't there anything easier?
I have my idea on paper and want to get on with building but am wanting to see if all my idea will fit .
Progress Thus far...
It's been a few days short of a year that I ceased being a member of the HO scale fraternity and undertook the challenges of modeling in N scale. Progress has been slow, but the time has come to share with you what I've managed to accomplish thus far.
Cheap too cheap? Ceiling treatments
My beautiful bride has given me the o.k. to expand my railroad into the 15-1/2' x 29-1/2' unfinished area of my basement! My existing railroad is in a finished room in the basement and features drywall on the walls (9' high) and ceiling. I will be removing the doors on the finished room and exand the layout by going through the walls into the unfinshed area. I plan on finishing the walls with drywall and paint and had originally planned on using a suspended ceiling.
Future expansion advice please - how to plan for adding an additional deck
First, let me apologize for the fuzzy layout picture - a result of my capture process. I'm looking for advice on layout construction, but specifically on how to build my expansion (which will be single deck) to allow for easy double decking later on if the need arises. For the diagram below the red & blue lines (and supporting benchwork) would represent the expansion. Regarding double decking I know that along the walls I can easily add a second deck by using brackets off of the wall. My main question is how do I support a second deck for areas that aren't along
Progress on the Donner Summit
Real progress recently on my Donner Summit layout. The graders are above Colfax pushing for the summit!
Here is a link to a video update I made.

The subroadbed is made of 1/2" gatorfoam as is the 3-level swinging entry door.
And of course all the turnout motors are RC servos :-)
Any comments are welcome.

JL&T Railroad Blog
Hi All,
I thought it would be a good time to start a Blog for the construction of our railroad here in Australia, the JL&T Railroad. The name is born from the initials of myself and my two sons, Lachlan & Toby.
For those that haven't been following our progress, and many questions here is a very brief update so far:
Layout: HO, SIze 11 x 4m (36' x 13.3').
Even more simplification? (Layout Critique)
I've posted design options here before and always tried to complicate things (even last time)! The truth of the matter is that I don't have a lot of space. At the prompting of my lovely wife (who by the way thinks I don't really want to FINISH a layout, just keep redesign it...) I have tried to simplify things, yet capture the things that I would like to see in my miniature world.
