Operating at Scale Speeds

I have noticed in some videos that scale speeds are sometimes not observed in operating sessions, especially in the yards.  Seems to me that not operating at scale speeds make the train movements look toy like.

What is the common operating practice - observe scale speeds or not?  If they are not observed what is the reason?

Your input is appreciated.

Greetings from Minnesota

I've been a reader for a few months, but never realized that you had discussion forums.  Looking forward to some lively discussion, and sharing the progress on my layout.  Here's what I have done thus far:  http://dmirhillcitysub.blogspot.com

New editor for posting - how do we upload an image to appear in a post?

I can't figure out how to insert an image into a posting with the new editor.  Please advise.

Hey from the Netherlands

Hey guys,

Just found this website and the magazine. As a member of the NMRA as well as the FREMO Dutch Division, I like this site because I just recently switched from modeling Dutch RR to US (East coast).

I hope to learn a lot here, and pick your collective brains now and then... wink

Sincerely,

Gerard Wassink

WYSIWYG editor upgraded to latest release

We've upgraded the WYSIWYG editor to the latest release.

You will notice some changes - let us know if you discover any issues. This version should support all the latest browsers including IE9.

The editor now includes a spell checker ... however, we're going on the cheap and using the free version, which includes an "ad popup" for the spell check provider SCAYT (Spell Check As You Type).

Talking it up - Model Railroad Hobbyist

I was doing some work on my website the other day and realized that I hadn't included a link to MRH!  I added the icon and link and hope that it will help direct new people to the MRH site and magazine.  We all can help with the success of MRH if we "talk it up" - verbally, by emails, with our blogs / websites, and any other way that you can think of.  The more people that become MRH fans, the more sponsors we can attract and the more authors we can get to contribute.  Let's all do our part!

Friday Fun Videos

I am posting a "Fun" video. Per Joe's sujestion I purchased Sony Vegas Platinum editor. It is a GREAT program. I made this video to try and learn the functions of the program. It has a pretty good learning curve.(Thanks to you tube videos for help in making the movie) I have had a fun time doing it. The video is in the name of fun only. There were no Mac or Jonsey that I know off.

Hope you enjoy it.

layout building

Ok guys I would like to know I building my layout and need to find out with the bench work do you use all plywood for a base or do you just cut the plywood just for the track and then use 2 inch  foam as the scenery base. Its  seems to me that it would be a waste to use plywood then 2 inch blue foam on top of it. and if you use all plywood for the base then how do you make hills and creeks and rivers. Thanks for all the help guys
