MRH Website general discussion

Big Boy No. 4014 was moved from the Fairground this morning.
Union Pacific Railroad is undertaking the movement and restoration of one of the world’s largest steam locomotives – the Big Boy No. 4014.

Under lighting
I know a lot of discussion has been held on lighting on top of layouts. But one thing I wonder about is what is used for lighting under the lowest, or first, level of your layout. Although the underside of a multi level has lighting provided by the level below, it seems as the lowest level lacks lighting for working "under there."

Minimizing Dust
Prior to starting construction on my layout, half of my basement was finished with drywall, carpeting, and mineral based friable grid suspended 2x4 ceiling tiles. Within a couple of months of installing the ceiling tiles, I noticed a fine dust settling on desks and tables. The cause of this dust, on close examination, was the vibration of the panels in the grid lattice from the normal household activities on the main floor above the basement.

An Intermodal Ballet
I found this video on YouTube produced by G.E. about the CSX Intermodal facility in North Baltimore, Ohio to be very well done. It kind of reminds me of a ballet with all the choreographed moves.

UnDcc a loco
Was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove a DCC decoder from a loco and make it DC. I just purchased a Life-Like Proto 2000 GP-9 II Central Vermont hard to find.I run DC and have over 30 locos all nonDCC except 2 which are Atlas w/sound, their Quantum engineer, with a controller for sound. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against DCC, it's just the cost for decoders and new controls is way more than I care to spend. I would prefer to spend my money on more locos, cars, layout.
