Weathered freight car photos - Mike Confalone weathering samples from upcoming video series

Guys/gals.

Here are a few before and after photos of several of the actual freight cars featured in the upcoming weathering video series. The freight car weathering video is complete and Joe is editing it now. Next up is diesels, which I will be diving into beginning next week.

Goals for 2016??

I worked on creating goals at the end of 2015 and due to life was not able to keep many of them. I did modify my goals halfway through the year in order to have some sense of accomplishment. For 2016 I have created a a short list of goals I would like to have finished by the end of the year.

Movie Atomic Train

Watched a movie on YouTube called the Atomic Train.   It is a Doomsday movie.  Doomsday for Denver.  All through the movie people not following the rules or instructions set up Denver for disaster.  You will be. Surprised how many make it worse.   Like all movies involving trains they equipped the train cars with walkways and hand rails that don't exist on real trains for the action scenes and to keep the actors safe.

Merry trainmas!

This is the what did I get for Christmas for my layout thread.  The above Blair Line kit was waiting for me, which is 1 end of my next 2 modules.  (A steel mill end will be the other one).

Signature Trees Of The Central California Coast - Was Testing

This is more of a test than anything else. A friend of mine is building a layout based on the SP between Salinas and Gilroy, including the Monterey Branch. Like a dumb <censored>, I volunteered to research  and build signature foliage for the area. Signature trees for the area include Monterey cypress, Monterey pine, Coast live oak and eucalyptus (multiple species with different appearances).

Amazing what you discover

Today I was out for a walk with the dog and and in an area that we go by all the time.  The dog decided to stop and I noticed there was some old rails that have been abandoned many years ago that I never noticed that would have delivered some type of freight to the building next to it.  The stops/bumpers were still on the end of one of the rails. Haven't taken any pictures of it, but thinking it might be something I can incorporate into my own layout.

In my area a lot of the old railway right of way have been turned into walking/biking paths.

Last Login

Hi Guys,

Would it be possible to add the last login date/time under the username? That would help pinpoint how far back to look for thread replies. I know that the topics count contains the new posts link, but sometimes it seems to be off.

It's also just nice to know how long we've been away.

Eastern forest canopy

Looking for ideas of ways to produce a forest canopy that looks good. I've tried the puffball method, and while that works for something a few feet in the background,it looses eye appeal at closer distances,at least to me. I also use Super Trees for the foreground, and medium depth,i.e. Up to 12",but feel that would be extremely time consuming, not to mention expensive, for the background.

Those darn incandescent Christmas lights

Having had a artificial tree for 5 years now with 5 or 6 sets of incandescent bulbs, some bulbs have given up their life. Each year I tried to find the bad ones without getting frustrated. The wife had bought an couple of extra strings to put on the tree in place of the string that doesn't work. Problem is the original lights are so tangled and have some kind of clip-ons when they installed them, that it's hard to change out the whole string.
