Getting Started

Two locos in a consist

Hi all,

Being relatively new to the hobby, I have not, as yet, run a consist with two locomotives – and I’m not really sure how to do that.

I’m interested in acquiring Kato’s re-release of the Super Chief and it will be available with an F7A and F7B.

As a general question, how does one run two locos? Is it simply a matter of assigning both the same address?

Also, as these locos will be available with DCC or DCC+sound, I’m wondering if I should order both units with both or just having sound on the A unit.

Friday Follies (or, What The Heck Did I Do?)

So, the last time I'd every driven spikes, or soldered a throttle (Onboard), or aimed a spitting Badger airbrush at rolling stock, was before my USAF change of station move from K.I. Siberia, er, K.I. Sawyer AFB in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, to Griffiss AFB in Rome, NY, right in the middle of that unpleasantness called "Desert Storm". 1991.   Fast forward some 28 years and a dozen optician visits later, here I sit at a workbench again.

New layout and Model Railroader

Hey Everybody,

I am not new to the hobby. My Dad and I built a semi-complete layout when I was much younger. However, I now have a house and ample space to build a real layout.

I have a loft that is roughly 10'x25' and I want to use every inch of wall space I can. I am currently planning a shelf design in N scale. I also need a small corner as my office but the rest is for the layout. I'll be posting in the different topics to get ideas during the different stages of the project.

Masking windows; novice needs help

I want to get this model out of the case and mask the windows in order to weather it and seal it.

I've cut simple square pieces of masking tape in the past, but not ones with curves and hard to get at like the windows of the doors.

Any links,  ideas, and techniques would be much appreciated.

Has anyone had dealings with this hobby shop.

Cedar Creek Hobbies formally Action Hobbies Kingsville.

Visited their site today, but never heard of them before.

How would you fill this space?

Ok.

Here it is. I have some pre-made bench work sections that I plan to use for a chainsaw layout. I have the following ready to go.

22" by 10' solid

(2)  16" by 5' section that are foam on frame work. I can put these at each end of the 22 * 10 to create a U and those can be staging etc.

A few "musts, dislikes

Scale... HO or N, era I tend to gravitate to the mid-late 1970s.

Choosing a scale

Hey ya'll. A quick bit about me, and what I want to accomplish in the MR'ing world. I'm active duty Navy with 18 years in. I'm getting ready to transfer in 8 months to my last shore duty before I retire at 22 years of service. I grew up with HO scale trains, and dabbled in N scale for a few years about a decade ago. I'm coming back into the hobby because it's something my son is very interested in, and he wants to build a layout.

Need some advice...

I have a friend who wanted to get into model railroading. He has done that and it makes him happy to imagine what he might have, someday... The BIG problem is there are some serious learning issues along the way. He is now having A LOT of issues with derailments and poor running due to him doing everything opposite of what this experienced modeler has suggested (the list of faux pas is extensive). It is obviously frustrating him. Heck, it is frustrating me. I had no idea how bad an old Bachmann steamer really runs on bad track... It ran great on my track.

Newbie with a Plan

Hello all:

How to

Hello, I am new here and was wondering what and were I could find some stuff to do a HO scale grain elevator. I would like to make a diorama with tracks and some hoppers to make a HO scale version of the West Liberty Heratige Co-oP in Ohio. I'm just now starting this and would love some tips!
