Locos and rolling stock

Locos - Rolling stock

Up to this point I have been a box model railroader.  I have some AHM/Rivarossi loco models with tall flanges(steam).  Can anyone give suggestions as to how to make it possible to run these locos on code 83 rail? Thanks gkn

Decal Paper Experience ???

Hey gang,

I am looking for anyone who has experience with DecalPaper.com? What I would like to know is if their paper is any good? There are few reviews that I can find for the product. The company's return policy is non-existent so I really am hesitating.

What other brands of decal paper has anyone used? I have a color laser, so I need laser capable paper.

Thanks,

Kirk

MV Lens sizing chart

I was posting a reply on another forum and thought I would post the info here since it can very useful for those that use MV lens.

Here is a great link to copy and keep. http://www.hubhobbyshop.com/hint32.htm

Scroll down and there is a chart that list bit size, bit #, lens size and MV part #.  I cut n paste the scale appropriate sizes and keep it on the bench.  MV lens can be hard to find so don't limit yourself to RR sources.

Prototype Inspired Penn Lake Railway Paint Scheme

Developing a locomotive scheme can be tricky...I took the easy way I out and copied a prototype example.  Since the Penn Lake Railway is partially owned by the Delaware and Hudson, it wasn't much of a stretch to use elements of the D&H's first diesel scheme.  In fact for several units, I just bought D&H units and replaced Delaware & Hudson with Penn Lake

GP-7 kits?

I have sort of a question, Are there any afordable (for around $64 or less) GP-7 locomotive kits?

I found an article describing how to build a GP-7u, as well as some refrence photos of the same locomotive, and I would like to give it a shot with building one.

Differance between an F45 and an FP45?

Does anyone know the exterior differances between the F45 and FP45? I'm not real sure, but past experiance tells me that the passenger varients of various locomotives normally have longer carbodies, to acomidate HEP and steam-generator units in the locomotive's carbodies.

Also, what work will need to be done to turn a model of an F45 into a model of an FP45?

Scratch-building tips, anyone?

I would like to undertake the scratch-building of some diesel locomotive (more than likely, using a blueprint from an old Model Railroader) and I would like to ask for any help before investing. Would anyone have any tips, tricks, or bygone basic knowledge I will (or may) need?

I plan on doing something small (like an NW-2) first, them graduating to larger locomotives (like a few B40-8s).

Any information regarding scratch-building would be apretiated

Undecorated locomotives. Anyone know who has them?

Does anyone know af any companies where I could get cheep (under $100.00, or less) undecorated locomotives? I got some back in Febuary 2010 at a train show, and the custom-paint bug bit me after I completed one of them, and I would like to get some more to work on, dispite my restricted budget.

Athern coupler boxes missing, any sugestions for replacements?

I have a kit of an Athern SD 40-2 (the one that needs the coupler pockets to keep the shell on the chassis) and, after a work-bench mishap, both coupler boxes, couplers, and screws have gone missing. I have found 1 of the sets, but the other set is still MIA (I think the carpet monster was awake, for a change) Can anyone give me a sugestion for finding a replacement for the screw, and the coupler box? I have given thought to getting a replacement from Athern, but the idea of the shipping being more than the cost of the box is not what I want to deal with.
