Repairing Walthers P2K with QSI sound

I have one of the first phase GP9s that Life Like sold with QSI sound right before they were bought by Walthers. It ran great for a couple years, but now the sound works, but it stopped moving.

I could buy another decoder for it, but I wonder if anyone here has had any experience sending it in to Walthers for repair? There is nothing on their website about servicing P2K equipment, and I am waiting to hear from one of their customer support folks.

WPM 2010 (lots of photos!)

Little late, but here are my WPM photos... Didn't get a good shot of me at the table, had a guy take some for me, but he must have been really shaky, they made me sea-sick looking at them!

Parts for Athearn "Blue Box" Offset Hoppers...

Other then scouring E-Bay and Trains Shows, are there any other places I might find parts for Athearn 34' Offset Hoppers?  And I don't jsut mean the actual part, but anything that might be able to be used as a subsitute.

DCC for a LL P2K BL-2

I have a Life Like Proto 2000 BL-2 that I bought many years ago.  Due to many different reasons it (along with many other engines) has sat on my shelf, through perseverance & patience I now have a 4 x 8 layout with which to run it on.  I have DCC and want to install a decoder in the BL-2 but there are some restrictions I am experiencing on my journey to installing the decoder.

moniker decals

Anyone know of a source for moniker decals in HO?  Common monikers are Bozo Texino, Conrail Twitty, Colossus of Roads, etc.

Bachmann's H-5/I-3 2-6-6-2 vs H-4 2-6-6-2

If I understand the history of the NKP, the NKP leased the W&LE (to be
honest, I have never really understood what it means for a railroad to be
leased to another, I understand how one can lease a car or a house, but a
whole railroad, not exactly sure how that works when it comes to management,
running of trains, etc.but that is for another time, but if I got it
backwards, I'm sorry), but the point is through the W&LE, the NKP had some
I-3 2-6-6-2's. Bachmann many years ago, did a run of them as the H-5 and

Can a Walthers P2K GP-7 Shell fit on a Walthers P2K GP-9 Frame?

The reason for asking is I am terrible at trying to fit speakers into diesel locmotives and would rather have sound equipped from the factory units. So i have found online some GP-9 P2K Locomotives equiped with sound.  I have 2 NYC GP-7 P2K Locomotives that are not sound equiped.  I would like to swap the shells.  Is this possible?  or are the frames different so that the one can not fit over the other.  Thanks.

Passenger Car Modeling

Seeing the latest MRH and the great article on building CR inspection cars, I have a question about those new car sides. Walthers cars seem to come apart and become a universal core kit, would any of the commercially available brass car sides work as well?  Anybody on here used a Walthers coach and put brass sides on it with any success?

Thanks,

Thomas G.

Sn3 Freight Cars as Early 55n3

The PBL Sn3 boxcar comes close to the Ohio River and Western #605. Sn3 cars just have to be raised up at the bolster.  HO trucks with 36" wheels become early 3 foot trucks. The #605 is the prototype for the Bachmann On30 car. Shown here with a Mantua ten-wheeler as a 4-4-0.

Sn3 also becomes 55n2-1/2 with a gauge of 31 and some change. That is really strange because that is what HO track scales out in O scale.

What is 55n3? Visit:

Reading Details for Penn Lake RS3s

My Penn Lake locomotives are detailed like Reading units, and painted like Delaware & Hudson units.

A few of the RS3s actually started out as Atlas factory painted Delaware-Lackawanna units, that I relettered for Penn Lake, while keeping all the striping. For the rest I used Highball Graphics D&H decals..applying the nose striping is a royal pain.
