I cant take credit for this powered car idea but I rarely see it used. In fact I have never seen anyone but me use one. Over the years in the hobby and attending shows I always saw people running short trains with lots of locos on the front. To me it looks a little odd to see 5 locos pulling 20 cars or even one small loco slipping and barely able to pull 10 cars. So about 8 years ago I took an old athearn F7 and installed a decoder in it. With DCC the engine ran better but was stull kind of poor. So it again sat on the shelf most of the time.

I model the steam to diesel transition era. Most of my freight cars are models of steel cars, but during WW2 many cars were built using steel chasis and framework on the body and wood sides. I have a model that I think was built by Roundhouse/MDC that models a WW2 vintage composite boxcar. There are not a lot of color pictures of cars from that vintage when they were less than 10-15 years old. Does anyone know how such a car weathered or how long the wood would have lasted before the railroad would have rebuilt the car using steel sides to replace the wood?

HO Oldtyme 4-4-0. This is an update of the original 2006 WID and includes
electrifying the locomotive.

Con Cor MP15 Switcher...

Hi All,

Has anyone had any experience or own a Con Cor MP15 Switcher, I'm looking at purchasing one for my yard and can get one under $100 AU atm.

I've looked at the Atlas & Athearn and think the Con Cor maybe a good starting point as it is DCC ready.

Can I put a sound decoder in a dc engine

I was wondering if I can put asound decoder in a dc engine.I thought I read an article in one of the

major model train mags awile back. I have Bachman Easey Command System. I know it is a simple

system. When you want to run a dc engine I have to switch to the no.10 button on the pad. how

would this work with a sound decoder or is it not possible to do this.

Testing DCC chip for old Mantua engines

Hello- can anyone tell me how to test a DCC chip installed in Mantua 0-4- and 0-6-0 engines that i have totally rebuilt.

Any tips on DCC installation- mine have front and back headlights- some with tender pick up, some not. I bought one very small 4 wire microchip that I was told is fine for these little locos.

How do i set up the decoder -is it specific to a specific layout or will the chip work on anyone's layout?
