Removing molded plastic details from box cars

Hi all,

I would like to add metal details to some of my plastic box cars.   They all have molded-on details such as ladders and grab irons that first must be removed. However, never having done this, I need help on how to remove these molded-on details.

2' gauge rolling stock drawings

Today I came across this NMRA SIG group about sugar cane trains and operations, There is A TON of 2' and 2'6" rolling stock drawings of all kinds. Go to the middle of the list down for the high resolution PDFs.

N scale coupler springs

OK, I was changing my coupler boxes on my N scale Rapido passenger cars today when the inevitable happened - S-P-R-O-I-N-G!!!!  Now then, I need to get a stash of coupler springs.  The only problem is, I don't know which ones to get.

Christmas in November

This is probably old hat for most of you but for me it was a first and it came in double dose. I am happier than a puppy with two... let's say bones.

Powering Jordan Mack Railcar

I am having trouble powering the Jordan Models 1922 Mack Railcar, especially the front truck.

Has anyone powered this model?

MOW equipment/cars in N scale?

I have an older N scale Bachman MOW crane set and was thinking of trying to repaint, decal and detail, then pair with a MOW crew car and flatcar or gondola with appropriate load.  But before diving into the project, does anyone know of other higher quality models of these specialized cars available in this scale that I might consider aquiring?

Also, what cars/equipment were typically included in MOW trains that I may be missing?  (This is for the late steam era.)

TIA.

BS 70 Ton 3 Truck Cimax

Just received the latest edition of the 70 ton shay.....looks good..... runs like crap.

There appears to be a "hitch in it's get along". Engine starts to move at throttle setting 1 and then stars to do the herky jerky about every other wheel rotation. Tried running on the test fixture to "wear" the runnng gear in but no apparent improvement. Added a dab of lubricant to external moving parts...no improvement. Any body had this problem? If so what pray tell fixed it. Really don't want to send it back. I love these little things.....

Putting DCC and sound into Vanderbilt tenders

The railroads that I model: Tonopah and Tidewater, Tonopah and Goldfield, etc. used lots of Vanderbilt oil tenders behind their 4-6-0s and 2-8-0s.  It is time that I convert a number of engines to these tenders.  I am painfully aware of the wiring issues of putting a Bachmann Vanderbilt tender behind their 4-6-0.  My question is where do you put the speaker? What size speaker did you fit?  Did you drill sound holes, if so where?   I acquired a brass Vanderbilt tender and it appears to have no way to get into the interior that I can find.
