Locos and rolling stock

Progress report on Genesis DDA40X (with photos)

Click photos for larger versions

Here is an early look at preliminary test samples of the new HO scale EMD DDA40X under development by Athearn. The toolmakers still have some final work to do on this monster (more than 14-inches long) but the final version promises to be an impressive and powerful model.

N scale Trix loco

I have a Trix 0-6-0 that seems to have a worn gear in it. Is there any where to get parts for these or should I cut my losses and find something else???

I'm reaaly getting sick and tired of N scale steam locos. I have 4 of them and only one that works right now only because it is still new in the box.

Does anyone make a decent stem loco that is not priced out of this world????

1st gen EMD Winter hatch (GP18)

I have some hatches I want to install onmy P2K Gp18. The hatch has the screen offset to one end. does the screen go over the rear fan facing the rear or does the screen end sit towards the front of the loco?

Request for help on hopper slope sheet color

I am working on a small fleet of porch hoppers that the Missabe once had to move commercial coal.  I am certain the end slope sheets, and perhaps the sides as well, had little paint left on them due to the abrasion of the loads.  I would like to find a photo or two that clearly showed what the inside of a hopper looked like – color-wise.

I would have thought with all my ore car photos, I would have had a picture of something similar, but I don’t, and I couldn’t find anything in MTW or Google images – my first resorts for stuff like this.

Exact Rail SP Bay Window Caboose. . .

I just received this email from Exact Rail, regarding their intended release of the the HO SP Bay Window Caboose.  The project got cancelled.  RATS!  At leaset Athearn will be coming out with this one.

Proto 2000 GP9 short

Kid... My two year old son, who loves playing choo choos, draged a proto 2000 GP9 through a closed turnout causing the rear wheels to spread apart making it out of gauge.  So, I twisted them back in gauge and now it shorts when I put it on the track.  I haven't had time to tear into it to see what was wrong (kids again) so thought I might ask and get some direction before I tear into it.

Lubrication & lubricants -

I have a few locos that give me (us if you include my kids) grief.

So I was wondering what lubes are used by modellers & manufacturers... and just what are they?

The lube on gears appears to be white grease (lubriplate or equivalent), yet, when I've used that, no improvment is noted (and, yes, I clean parts beforehand to keep from over-lubing).
