N scale Southern Pacific Models

I will admit that I have been lurking for quite some time...  I model the Southern Pacific's Oregon Division in July, 1967.  Well, at least the equipment used as I do not have an operational layout at the moment...  I thought I would expose some photographs that I have recently taken on the GEHAMS N scale layout here in Bakersfield, CA.  The images were shot at F8 with exposure times of 2-8 seconds and an ISO rating of 50.  Engine exhaust, filters and color correction(to compensate for poor lighting) were applied using photoshop.  The last photo had a new backd

Model Railroading business opportunity?

I'm not nearly entrepenurial enough to get into this, but one of our readers might be:

KATY BALDWIN AS 16

KATY CONVERTED SOME AS16 TO EMD POWERED UNITS WITH DYNAMIC BREAKS.  I HAVE SOME OLDER STEWARD AS16 MODELS TO CREATE THAT CONVERSION.  I HAVE BEEN HAVING NOT MUCH LUCK FINDING INFORMATION SO I CAN CONVERT THE MODELS FROM STANDARD AS16 TO THE UNITS WHICH KATY UPGRADED.

Wheel Gauge

Running locomotives for a period of time will require some maintenance along the way,  specifically checking wheel gauge. I suppose the axles work themselve loose and the wheels move out of gauge. Do any of you glue your metal axles into the plastic gear piece to keep it there? Is there any reason not to glue them?

An N scale AC-12 in a far flatland: Italy

As this place seems "immune" from the Intermountain's AC plague (Ho model seems to suffer of never end discussions and some N scale too), well, mine run nice from the beginning!

60' Thrall Centerbeam w/o opera windows - looking for pictures

I'm looking for pictures (model or proto) of 60' Thrall centerbeam cars with the uprights instead of the opera windows.  I'm building a couple of the McKean kits and the directions only show the opera window placement.  What I am wondering is the placement of the cross braces for the uprights.  The 73' cars have 4 cross braces so they really won't help as these have only 2. I checked Railroad Picture Net but most are the opera windows. The 2 uprights I found had loads block the spots where I think the cross braces go.

Thanks for any help

Blue Line HO 2-6-6-4 Class A problem

My new Blue Line 2-6-6-4 Class A ran great for 5 minutes on my new DC layout. Then it stopped. All my other locos run fine.

Decal paper

I'm looking into making custom decals for rolling stock, using blank decal paper and a laser printer.  Microscale and Champ do not list blank papers, but Walthers does.

Walthers 932-706821 is Dull finish blank decal paper.

Walthers 934-706822 is Gloss finish blank decal paper.

Has anyone used these?      Plus/Minus?          Is there a preference for using Dull finish or using Gloss finish?

Is there another brand that you recommend?  Other ideas or suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

BLI CZ 3rd run already sold out?

I noted that last fall BLI shipped a 3rd run of California Zephyr passenger cars.  I already have 15 of them but did have a couple holes I wanted to fill in.  I noticed that most venders seem to be sold out - wow.  The first two runs lingered for many months but this time they are nearly gone and what is on Ebay is double MSRP give or take.  They are having a laugh, as my fiancee would say.
