Locos and rolling stock

On30 Chopper Couplers?

I'm curious, does anybody make a chopper coupler suitable for On30?  Ideally, I would like them to fit in a Kadee #5 box, or at least to be a straight drop-in replacement for a #5 or similar.  Is anybody else interested in them?

These are the couplers I'm talking about:

Kitbash a roundhouse 2-8-0

Hello all freaks of loco modeling!

Recently I finished my personal coal field monster.

I started with a roundhouse 2-8-0 kit (heavy metal) and did several drastic changes to achieve a coal field monster displaying something near to a N&W Class W2.

Here you may look up the story of that engine:

Start, but the boiler is faaaaaaaar to high!!

Walthers name trains

So, the 2014 Walthers name train was a disappointment for me, so I’m looking forward to 2015.  This thread is for speculating what it will be.

How about a double though?  For the first time Walthers could release a “double name train”:  Panama Limited / City of New Orleans.

Look at what that would entail for Walthers:

Mixing Kadee sizes

Can't see a problem with this but thought someone else might have some experience.

Is there any issue in mixing small-head HO Kadee couplers like the #58 with the standard size #5 and variations? The thought is to put scale-size on locomotives and cabooses, and use my large stock of #5 couplers on general rolling stock. The small heads look nicer in photos (except for the giant coil spring) but the rolling stock is meant for an operating railroad.

Trackwork is pretty decent and the grade transitions are very gradual.

An assortment of locos and rolling stock for the North Central

Now that I’ve found my camera (not lost in the wreck, after all) I thought I’d show off some of my new stuff.

Here"s one for you decal pros.

A cruel sense of humor.

Just as I have finished painting and detailing a GP35 as CP 5023, Atlas announces CP 5023 and 5024 in their new catalog. I think the train gods must really, really be killing themselves laughing at me.

Still, it was neat to try my hand at painting, detailing and decaling but I could have been doing the OBRY engine instead!

GP38-2 drives - Athearn Genesis vs. Atlas

I'm thinking of adding some Athearn Genesis GP38-2s to the fleet, but would like to know how the drive quality compares with the Atlas GP38/GP38-2 (and Kato SD38-2s, for that matter), and how well the two can be made to MU with DCC. Any input would be appreciated.
