southern Pacific loco marks

I have a sp gp9 locomotive with a diamond above the numbers on the side which I read indicates the locomotive has a spark retarder installed. I've seen other markings on my other locomotives such as a square. is there any where I can find what these markings mean? What do they indicate?

Bachmann HO 2-6-0 driver diameter?

Could somebody with the Spectrum Bachmann 2-6-0 please measure the driver diameter for me?  I am hoping that it is the same as the low boiler 4-6-0, so that I can replace some or all of the drivers.  I like the counterweight style on the 2-6-0 a bit better, as it will be a little easier to modify for my purposes.

Looking for steam loco drivers

Hi,

I am looking for 80" HO scale boxpok drivers for a GS-4 rebuild project.

I don't really care for the warranty option given by Bachmann for my early loco.  Mind you, it is fair, I just don't like the option.

I'm hoping to use 3-d printing to replace the crummy split axles, but so far no follow up responses from the 3-d printer folks.

All of the usual folks either don't have them, stopped making/carrying.

Unique method for powering traction and other small machines

I was at a train show in Florida yesterday, and there were some nice traction layouts.  One man had some nice scratch-built open cars in HO, so I asked how they were powered.  He used a motor from a little slot car.  Not much power--but a single streetcar doesn't need much power.  I thought some people might find this handy.

Handrails for a SD40

Hello All,

I have a HO scale Kato SD40 (Santa Fe) but I haven't the handrails. Kato's website can't provide this item.
How can I do to find those handrails please?

Many thanks for your answers.

Dumb Luck on my Side - AC&Y Locomotives

Sometimes you get really lucky and don't realize it until a long time afterwards. Such is the case with the locomotive roster of my railroad.

The prototype for my railroad is the Akron Canton & Youngstown, a fallen flag. The AC&Y motive power roster was primarily FM units - H16-44 and H20-44 being the bulk of the fleet. What is the first thing you do when re-entering the hobby after a long time? Buy locomotives! I set out to get me some AC&Y locomotives. This was 2009.

cabless units

Hey everyone. I need some help. I am planning on making some gp38b units but don't know how to go through with this. If anyone else has done this before and knows how. It would be much help. I am planning on making these in ho scale, and I plan on kitbashing them. All advise accepted. Thanx.

Converting HO Bachmann steam drives to On30 trains.

I have seen the kits available for converting HO (including Bachmann) steam drives to On30 steam engines.  I have viewed the kits offered by Backwoods and a few others.  We have discussed converting a Spectrum 3 truck HO Shay that I have to an On30 Shay in another post.

Suggestions Needed

I have two Alco Models C-628 Century Alcos. Can't remember what year I bought hem but they are the older all brass engines. Here's a picture of the engine.

Experience with the Bachmann N-Scale EMD GP7 with DCC

Has anyone had any experience with the new Bachmann N-Scale EMD GP7 with DCC installed?  I'm considering buying one and was wondering how it performs.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Bob
