Wash Me!

"Little weathering fun using the first picture as inspiration"

This well worked GP38-2 is long overdue for a wash and visit to the paint booth.  But underneath, is just as reliable as the first day it left the EMD plant.

Are the contrasting colors on prototype reefers and boxcars paint or car cement?

I am working on detailing some cars (BB+) whose sides contrast with their ends and/or roofs.

Is there somewhere I can learn which cars had which?

I can tell you that this is a topic on which Google does a great deal better on recall than on relevance.

And what is used on black boxcar doors, e.g., New Haven, paint or cement?

thanks for your help.

ahm ho 0-4-0 help

So for the past week I've been trying to install a dcc decoder into a ho ahm 0-4-0. I've insulated just about everything but it keeps shorting out. I've removed the motor. Insulated wheels from the frame but just can't figure out what I'm not doing. Has anyone attempted to add dcc to one of these. Because this is one of those projects I might just leave be. Thanks for any help I can't get yall. Have a great day.

OTTX 92065 Flatcar with Oshkosh HEMMT Tanker

This is a 60' Intermountain wood deck flatcar with a Herpa Minitanks Oshkosh truck. I removed and added some decals on the flatcar to match the prototype car. I then weathered the car and used Alkem Scale Models etched brass chains to tie the truck down. Before you say the chains should be crossed, look at prototype pictures. I used drive truck pulling oversize and heavy. We always crossed at least one set of chains. The military must do things a little different. All of the pictures I found of these, none of them had the chains crossed.

Help Identifying Diecast Tenders

I have acquired some diecast steam locos and tenders that I have not been able to identify. Can anyone tell me who manufactured these tenders with what looks like a doghouse on the back?

Copper Basin Railway

Help.  I am looking to start a layout based on the Copper basin railway.  I would like to do some custom locomotives and cars.  I am looking for decals and I have been unsuccessful, anyone have any ideas?  Also would anyone know where I might come up with drawings of the ore cars.  I have had no luck there either.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.  Thanks BK.

ESU LokSound help!!!!

I have an Atlas RS1 with ESU Lok.  I have CV3 and 4 set to a momentum of 200 each.  This morning when I fired her up, those settings were lost.  Now, I can't do anything.  It just sits and idles.  I go into CV8 and set a value to 8 for a factory reset and nothing happens.  I put in 3 on my NCE and that doesn't work.  I tried with the previous engine number programmed in (#200) and that doesn't work.  I'm not sure what to do now since I can't factory reset and start over.  I'm going out for a run.

Athearn Genesis, Removing truck side frames

Okay,

Weathering an Athearn Genesis GP38-2 and when trying to remove the truck side frames noticed these things did not give easily.

Despite going slow, I ended up breaking the small clips on three of the four side frames.  These breaks do not appear like they will cause problems when putting the side frames back on as the center "tube shaped" insert seems to be the primary attachment.

"For future knowledge" is there a procedure or easier way to remove truck side frames?
