How to change eras with out pain or expense
There have been lots of discussions regarding changing eras for modeling prototype equipment in the forums. So I have been doing some reading of magazines back in the fifties and made a discovery. I have been looking at the dollar car series in Model Railroader that was running in the 1950s and possibly later. This concept started by accident. Tom B. has lots of reference material that is well archived. Ron was building an old kit regarding a carbon black covered hopper car. Tom B remembered an article about that type of car in the dollar car series and dug it up.

Bangor and Aroostook BL2
I have at long last bought a Proto 2000 BL2 undecorated unit. I am fond of anything so ugly that it is beautiful (I am a living example). I want to do it up in Bangor and Aroostook. I've found lots of pics online for detailing ideas.
I'm seeking out an expert on such a thing. I want to know at what time the solid blue scheme was applied and who does the best decals for same? Also which brand/color of paint is best for the B&A Blue?

Shell mounting Kadee couplers on BBs a question and a rant
OK, I have a bunch of BB engines in my To do bin and I want to shell mount the couplers.
I'm starting out with some GP40-2s.
Here's my question, does anyone know the correct size of styrene pad to use to build up a mounting surface for the coupler?
Tested my K27 after regauging it.
I have three K-27's from Sunset models in HOn3.
All out of gauge... They couldn't clear a turnout without derailing.
I've regauged them to NMRA specs.
This (and the other) locomotive has a long list of work done to make it work.
Sound in C&O Allegheny, awe-inspiring video
This was a posting I had made on another forum a goodly number of years ago. Just the other day I returned to this awe inspiring video,..... thought others might fnid it interesting as well, particularly lovers of BIG STEAM
Smoking motor
I have 3 "old" DC/DCC Atlas engines (HO Scale), Amtrak GE 505, 506 and 515 which came with some obsolete Atlas DCC decoder. I'm upgrading them to brand new Tsunami 2 PNP with sound.
Did the first one with no problem.
On the second one, after I replaced the Atlas DCC decoder by the Tsunami 2, first thing I did as usual is run it on the workbench. As soon as I get it in reverse even at 1/4th speed, the motor starts smoking.
EMD NW2
I have a question about Phase 2 EMD NW2 switchers built in 1945.
Rivarossi engines
Forgive me, but I would like to ask a question. Do any of you own or had the chance to operate the new generation of Rivarossi locos that came out last year?
I ask this because I have 2 old GG1s built by Rivarossi in 1970 something. I thought they quit the hobby but I just learned they have produced several new models. My GG1s are the best in my small fleet. Powerful, quiet, detailed. But run DC. I now run DCC and will be upgrading my loco fleet....my past tells me go back to Rivarossi.

Making Covers for your Hoppers
I have a handful of hoppers that need covers to suit the needs of my layout as they will be delivering grain and hops to a brewery. I didnt want to use boxcars for this. Does anyone sell just the covers that I can paint to match? If not anyone made covers from scratch and willing to post a tutorial?
