Cars/engine weight distribution
At the Randall Museum in SF we run an automated train on a back-and-forth route. You can see a video here of that in action. My friend who help me setup this recommended to use a push-pull engine configuration for two reasons: a/ to avoid "shoving back" the lighter coach cars, and b/ to match the prototype. The drawback is that I have 2 DCC engines and I spent more time than I want to admit carefully speed matching them, to avoid putting too much tension on the coach cars in between. It's especially tricky during acceleration or deceleration phases.
I always want to experiment to try alternatives. So my question is whether that push-pull configuration is really needed, and by that I mean do we need two actual DCC engines?
Cabooses
We're having so much fun with brass engines, let's try something else.
This model started as a Walthers Mainline International bay window caboose in BN Green. Windows were filled and the body scrubbed and primed for WP Caboose Red. Lettering is Microscale 87-448 with the insert sheet for WP steel cabooses 1955+. The only added parts are Kadees and the curved Tichy caboose grabs.
1900+ era Freight Car Question
2 questions actually
What color were wood under frames painted? I am assuming that they were as a preservative.
Paint makes wood slick...were wood walkways on top of cars left bare wood?
Thanks, Jack

Northern Pacific caboose color
Hi all,
I'm about to start building a couple of American Model Builders N-scale Northern Pacific caboose kits. My research indicates that during the 1940's, NP caboose (like moose: singular and plural) were painted Boxcar Red. We all know that 'Boxcar Red' covers a fair amount of ground. Does anyone have a recommendation for NP Boxcar Red? Preference for rattle can.
Walthers GP 35 Phase Ii

Secure Screw in Resin
Hi everyone,
Any recommendations for ways to secure a 2-56 in resin temporarily for an HO truck. I am building a resin kit and after threading the kit screw locations, they seem a bit loose. Resin seems to lack the bite that metal or styrene seem to have.
Thanks.
Getting Started with TruColor
I am getting ready to start spraying a few models with TruColor.
This will be my first time working without Floquil, so tips and pointers will be greatly appreciated.
Couple of notes,
1. I am using an airbrush.
2. I plan to use TruColor, I have already purchased the paint. lets try to stay away from the "I would never use that" or "I use ...... paint"
Just looking for help/tips/etc for those who have used TruColor.
Thanks,
Brass Engines
It seems that a lot of individuals are getting interesting in brass engines all over again
Besides eBay and Brasstrains.com, where do folks go to search for HO brass steam locos?
I monitor both of these on a regular basis and just wonder if anyone else has a good place to search. I'm more than a bit nervous about eBay given the price of some offerings there and the rather sparse descriptions often given items. I'm looking for moderate size rodded locomotives but particularly for logging (either geared or rodded) in standard gauge HO. Many places I used to look appear to be out of business or at best very inactive.
