glueshell 2
so how do you actualy do glueshell? do you dip the paper into the glue or do you brush it on? do you use straight glue or do you add water? I have found articles discussing the benefits but not the actual techniques
Thank you
Paper mill buildings are done! Good news and bad news . . .
In the past few years I've posted bits and pieces of a paper mill I've been scratch building using multimedia and photo montages laminated to Masonite structure shapes. It was intended to be an HO scale representation of a Pacific Northwest mill where I worked during my college years. After about six years of on-and-off, now-and-then work, the mill is completed - that's the good news!

spray foam
Has anyone used spray foam to make mountains? The mountains I'm thinking of will be no higher than 1 foot. If you have what were your experiences?
Thank you

Gorre & Daphetid Viaduct
As previously posted, I am modeling John Allen's Gorre & Daphetid. I will not try to reproduce every blade of grass or even every structure. But I think that it is important to duplicate the two viaducts as close as possible. I have many pictures, but I'm not that good at estimating dimensions. Here is a good picture. I was first going to measure the track width, but realized that it is at an angle, so that would not work. Then I took a small freight car and measured from the ground to the top and it got about two inches. Comparing
Roundhouse Garden tracks overhead steam piping
Hi all, I'm curious to see how others have tackled putting overhead steam piping in their roundhouse scenes.
looking online, the most sited example is of course the Gorre & Dephetid.
Diamond scale apparently makes some supports for troundhouse steam pips and I've seen them over used in nearly every picture of this being modeled I could find.
Pictures of SP's Taylor yard roundhouse show a much much more robust version of what Allen and Diamond Scale have produced.
Just Plug
Hello All,
Does anyone know what size hole I need to drill in a structure for the Woodland Scenic Just Plug goose neck lamps?
Thanks,
Henry

coal dust for cinder ballast
I live in the Anthracite region in Pa. and a lot of sidings have old cinders as ballast.oe compacted powdered coal covering the ties. Has any one used real coal powder for ballast or ground cover if so what has your experience been with it?
Thank you

Has anyone ever played with "tree flats"?
Over the years I've seen many folks use structure flats applied to backdrops where you want to add a building with a bit of depth but are limited by a short distance to your backdrop. Has anyone ever done a similar thing with trees? I have an area where I want to conceal a seam with conifer trees but I don't really have room for a fully rounded tree.
Scratchbuilt suburban station shelter
For my Philadelphia-oriented St Martins suburban layout, I had to scratchbuild both the main station building and the shelter on the parking lot side. The shelter was a pretty small project compared to some of the awesome modelling I've seen on here, but I thought it might be worth sharing some details.
The shelter is the red roofed structure in the below pic. It's front and centre on the layout - about six inches from your face when looking at the station, so I wanted to try to make a decent job of it.
