Scenery and structures
Making scenery more interesting
I have completed one section of my layout (theme 50's Vermont) and more recently a free-mo model (theme - small town in SC on main line. I am realizing as I finish the module that my scenery work is getting boring.
O scale structure builds - card, plastic, wood - the cheaper the better!
Hi everyone.
I am currently working on a few layout builds in O and On30 scales, and have been building, scratchbuilding, and kitbashing structures to go with them.
Rather than spread the builds out over multiple layout threads, I thought I'd create a single thread for those interested in seeing what I've been working on.
I mostly work in wood, foamcore and cardstock, with some plastic kits and parts as well.
Coal fired power plant- before it's GONE!
Riding NJT recently and passing the The Hudson Generating Station (PSEG) in Jersey City, I noticed the old coal pile is Gone! It would measure about 80-100 feet high when replenished.
Thus, I'm posting addresses to Google maps images of the location... what it WAS like a few months (or perhaps years) back.

Interior Details of Structures
I am curious if any modelers make their structures like doll houses. What I mean by this is you omit one wall of the building so you can see inside it and its as detailed as the outside. Maybe its the Steve Jobs OCD in me but its something I am considering. A lot of buildings can be boring but if you have a walk about layout you can view the magazine photo realistic version from one side of your table and the higly details diorama from the other.
For Instance...
If I modeled the Ames Free Library from my hometown in Easton, MA you would see this:
Best paint primer for resin?
I just got my first resin building. I want to use Pan Pastells and Dr Ben's weathering stains on it. What primer should I use?
Blayne.
Moderator note: Since "Primer" has many possible different meanings (such as a primer on track planning) we updated your subject to be more specific so you're more likely to get the answer you're looking for.

Walther's 2 bay fire station--how is it?
Has anyone built the Walther's 2 bay fire station?
I'm thinking about building it, but repurposed as a boxing gym. The big bay doors can have plate glass windows, much like the gym I went to long ago. Then the boxing ring I've been sitting on for a long time can finally have a home.
The alternatives are the hobby shop, but that's a newer structure, or building one with the DPM modulars.
Does anyone recognize this as a typeface?
Does anyone recognize the typeface used in the photo attached? I want to add another phrase using the same type face on the right side of a Piggly Wiggly supermarket model I am making. It is not one of the standards type faces in WORD that I can find.
Choosing a bridge abutment
Hey, folks!
I recently acquired an Exactrail HO 72' deck plate girder bridge and some Micro-Engineering bridge shoes. and now I'm trying to choose appropriate abutments, so that the bottom of the bridge is about 20-30 scale feet above the surface of the creek below. Any thoughts on the abutments?
Thanks!

Deck bridge from the Walthers modern through truss
Okay gang,
I am so disappointed with Walther's "fix" for this great bridge so that it will clear high cube double stacks. The picture is not quite accurate because it is the same old girders with much smaller bracing over the top and to me it looks kinda cheesy. Some have even said that those changes barely clear the stacks.
