Screen Windows and Doors

What does everyone use for window screens and doors in HO scale? Are there cheap options?

Thanks ahead of time.

Clapboard siding size for scratchbuilding

Good day,

Scratchbuilding materials, especially wood, like clapboard siding and scale lumber is not easily available in South Africa.  I would like to try my hand on some scratchbuilding of wooden structures - probably start out with a smaller farmhouse or something - I model in HO scale.  I can now get hold of some Midwest Products #4450 clapboard siding, which has the 0.125" spacing.  Is this a good type of clapboard (spacing) to have for typical 1940/50s wooden type buildings (houses, rural commercial buildings, etc.)?

New-stalgia: Bachmann Steam Whistle Warehouse upgrade

If you were a kid with an N-Scale steam train in the 80s like me, you probably have very fond memories of this $9 Bachmann whistle warehouse. For me, it gave my boxcars somewhere to go and a reason for a spur siding to exist. Plus it had SOUND!

I found Optimus Prime in HO (?) scale

Well,

I liked the multiple sequels but disappointed with Hollywood laziness and the never ending sequel runs... I had finally given up on watching or buying anymore Transformer movies.

That was until I saw the boxed set for $15 which included a Blu-Ray (I mean who buys those anymore with 4k?) of Transformers, The Last Knight, a 1/64 scale Bumble Bee and what looks to me a close to 1/87 Optimus Prime ! Yes !!!

Girder bridge question

I have a couple questions concerning HO Micro Engineering deck girder bridges and CC Crow piers/abutments.

Walthers bridge shoes

Who knows how these things are supposed to look? I mean Micro-Engineering makes some great ones that are easy to use. This Walthers kit obviously has numerous other choices, but I have no idea how to use them. In other words, which pieces should be combined to make a shoe?

Does anyone have pictures of the shoes they have made from this kit?

Thanks!

Line poles at river crossings

I have a question about how railroads handled line/telegraph poles at river crossings.

How would the lines be strung across a wider river? I have a CV Pratt Truss and it's about 21" long. It seems a long way to have the wires in free space if you put a pole on each bank of the river. Would they somehow mount them on the actual bridge?

Sylvan and Other HO Vehicles - Creating Glass

Hi everyone,

I am experimenting with several kinds of glass for my Sylvan 41' Suburban project which will be lighted and is nearing completion. I am having some issues with realistic glass though. Testor's Window Maker was not very good with bubbles and varying thicknesses. The plastic that comes with the kit looks fine, but I am afraid that CA glue will cloud it somewhat when I cut and place the pieces. I may try the Mike Budde's Scotch Tape method, but the Suburban has more rounded trim around the windows than his 1970's vehicles have.
