Scenery and structures

Small layout - Expansive View
I did a screenshot of a magazine article I read last night in Model Rail. The UK model magazines have some clever techniques.
Colouring hydrocal/laster castings of "wooden" items
Hi there everyone,
I have a DPM Gold kit of the Coal River Station buildings, which has a part of the "wooden" platform as a hydrocal/plaster casting. I also have some plaster castings of wooden tunnel entrances and retaining walls. Do anyone have some good how-to tips or instructions to colour/paint these to get a nice wooden finish? I have searched the site and found a lot of discussion on the colouring of castings, but mostly rocks and such - no "wooden" items.
Will appreciate any help.
Best Regards
Stefan
Feed store questions
I am putting this feed store, a kit from Branchline Laser Structures, on a siding in a small town on my layout. Locale: upstate New York. Time: early 1950s. I am going to put interior lighting for the first and second floors, so I want to put a bit of interior detail in the structure, in addition to details on the rail and truck docks.
My questions:

Isn't this interesting? Bachmann structures in OO scale (1:76)
So, I dug out and started kitbashing an old Bachmann engine house that appeared around the early 1990s. It had some decent features, but the one thing it was severely lacking was good window detail. I know it is related to cost but even Walther's is guilty of the 2 foot thick window glass with molded in steel sash which is almost next to impossible to paint realistically. I mean make it two parts... A thin piece of clear acetate and separate sashes.

TOO MANY Structures
Yesterday (and will continue today) I decided to open up some of the bigger boxes in which I had packaged unbuilt structure kits for possible shipment overseas. I wanted to inventory what I had, both as a list, and with photos.
I had way too many ! I just bought up kits over the years as I found them at attractive prices, and/or rare, or no longer available.

Make Walthers Bascule Bridge Dbl-stack Friendly
It's my understanding that the bascule bridge of Walthers is NOT dbl-stack friendly?
Anyone made modifications??

PanPastel magic
I'm currently working on a river crossing for my small branch line. To prepare the bridge I painted the bridge deck dark brown and the ties gray with the intent of using PanPastels to add rust and overall weathering.
I've used PanPastels before on hand-laid wood ties with great effect but never on plastic. The pastels worked almost like magic. See a couple in-progress photos below.

DAS Modeling Clay Tips
I know DAS modeling clay has been suggested to help others in their scenery work. I got this in an email over the holidays and thought others might be interested. It's 34 minutes and in depth.
Sources for assembled trackside industrial structures
Hello! Just starting my first layout, a small HO 2x8 foot shelf. Looking forward to technical and operations side of it but dreading putting together those kits for industries to serve — just not my thing. Looking for suggestions either for ready-built or kit builders for hire. Thinking perhaps of grain silos, warehouses, oil or gas depots, etc. Thanks and Happy New Year everyone.
Ship loading of grain
Looking for pictures of grain loading facilities into ships. I'm building a large export grain facility and have the rail unloading side done along with silo's . Need pictures of the conveyor system and loading shutes that move the grain from silo to ship. Haven't found anything other than very far away shots that show little detail. -- Thanks , Ken
